Rat in the Kitchen - UB40

Simply because today, in the place where I work there was a BAT in the kitchen...and I mean the rat's cousin, not the thing you hit a ball with. One of those semi-common occurences to those of us in the sticks...

Light flight - Pentangle

Era-defining breathless rush of a song with its air of social and musical fluidity, this was also the theme to the BBC's first colour drama series, Take Three Girls, which I remember little about except that it landed me with a serious preteenage crush on the young Angela Down. Great piece of music anyway, and there's lots of other good stuff on the first few Pentangle albums, with a lot of stunning acoustic guitar interplay between Jansch and Renbourn.

Good call on 'Light Flight' Stuart. Stumbled on a Pentangle peformance of the song on YouTube recently. Like you, I will always associate it with the Take Three Girls BBC series from the late 60's/early '70s.

"Light Nights" - Paul Weller, from his new album 22 Dreams. Hadn't listened to much Weller for years but thought I would check it out since I have tickets to see him here in Sydney in August. A pleasant surprise. An interesting variety of material including folk, jazz, psycdelica etc.. and not too much of the stodge rock that made a lot of his previous solo stuff a chore. "Light Nights" is a hightlight for me - a nice Nick Drake/Pentangle vibe.

I'm ripping my all my Allman Brothers Band cd's into my Dell notebook. I'm listening to the live at the Fillmore East concert from 1971. It still sounds great 37 years later. The original tapes from the four shows of March 12th and 13th, 1971 are now resting in the Smithsonian Museum, they truely are a treasure.

Cheers Kev and Randy. I am hungover, it rained we had some dry bits, so we ended up mostly in the house but had a nice time, my twins were running around a c couple of us playing Television songs on acoustics in the kitchen.

i also had a great present from my freidn Pete. It was a copy of Dance Stance by Dexys and he got Kevin Rowland to sign it to me last week as he was dj'ing this local pub. I was forced to resign my first copy signed by all the dexys, it was '93 and i let tit go to tim abbott from Creation (the guy who made Oasis) on the grounds that he pass a tape of my then group to alan mcgee. i never got the call.

Belated good wishes for your 40th Spence, take some soluble Solpadeine (though I hear you can't get it over the counter in Britain) and you should be OK.

Spring Reverbs - their debut song, it's super and it's in French so I don't know the title but I've just ordered the 7".

Spence,

If you take some Solpadeine as XY765 suggests, you can always listen to Robyn Hitchcock's song of the same title, Solpadeine.

Last night I dreamed an angel kissed me
Solpadeine
Last night I dreamed an angel kissed me
Solpadeine, Solpadeine

And God had a feeling that turned into a girl
And then a woman
And then her bones
Solpadeine

And today I woke beside you
Solpadeine
Oh today I woke beside you
Solpadeine, Solpadeine

And I had a feeling that burned into my heart
And then my other, and then my bones
Solpadeine

Oh how can I walk without you
Solpadeine
Oh how can I walk without you
Solpadeine, Solpadeine

I’ll die in the bedroom with the windows open wide
And all my family except for you
Solpadeine

I was waiting for the Soft Boys
Solpadeine
I was waiting for the Soft Boys
Solpadeine, Miss Solpadeine

And I saw them coming across the dying grass
That long hot summer you were born
Solpadeine, Solpadeine, Solpadeine

It's on his Luxor album, however it's not one his better albums though.

Funny Andreas an old pal of mine told me about these last week, Wild Beasts. Its not doing it for me, reminds me of Mika, who is just plain awful. I don't mid some of the music, as you day, OJ and The Monochrome Set, but the voice sounds like Hinge and Bracket NOT Billy mac..

Got the email thanks, just getting round to checking em today - thanks.

Yeah Pad, good ol Pat Fish, he's a lovely funny man and a fu8kin fantastic songwriter.

LK, He's still doing music stuff, but not really releasing anything, he plays in a great dub Clash type band called Wilson. His main thing is running a bookshop inthe fish (ahem) market in Northampton and he puts on shows every Friday in Northampton, where he promotes unknown groups and his own Wilson and friends, there's always people hanging around, like David J from bahaus and Spacemen 3, whom I had the pleaseure of dancing to loads of rare soul with last Xmas, Jonny Mattox is a beautiful man.

I'lll take you down when you come to the UK LK!

Hey, an Elbow mention...andreas, I'd never heard of them either until an online friend sent me a handpicked compilation a month ago. They ain't bad...I hesitate to say they're like Coldplay fronted by Peter Gabriel, as they're much better than either of them, but it's still a half-decent nutshell description.

Suspicious Minds - Elvis Presley live
