Hi tne, thought it was time to tell you and others interested about the band I have been playing with for the last 11 years. The Junction House Band is lead by Brook Crowley aka Spring Rain. Junction House is a community centre for people with mild intellectual disabilities. Brook is the principal singer/songwriter. Brook writes brilliant melodies and lyrics. He asked me to say that the band only appears when it is needed, usually at community events for people with disabilities, he asked me to say that the musicans often have trouble getting to rehearsals and gigs because they need people to bring them, families and carers are involved (that's the bit, he didn't ask me to say) he asked me to talk about institutions and how people with disabilities are institutionalized. I asked him to explain but he thought I should do it. I will say this, Brook is brilliant (sorry if this embarrassing Spring Rain) the songs are magnificent. We have a couple of albums but I would recommend the one that is not yet published as this will be the best. We take years to make albums as we have no funding but we have written two musicals. And performed them through Australia. When I say we, I mean Brook has written almost all the tunes and melodies and Albert Blackley who is also from JH finds the chords on the keyboard. I do nothing but despair at my lack of musicality. Brook has an incredible knowledge of Australian music. He has a vinyl collection like you cannot believe. Brook can answer any question you can throw at him about 60's Oz music, details that no one else would have. Brook is a fan but a major musician as well. |

Reading over Spring Rain's posts, I see that I mistook his enthusiasm and sense of humour. I thought he was taking the piss. So apologies, Spring Rain. I'm not called tired'n'emotional for nothing. Is there anywhere on the web where we could listen to music from the Junction House band? |

You're almost there, Lindy. There's one thing I accidentally left out. The audiences are advised to spare as many thoughts to the band as possible, not to mention any other people (especially children) who either have disabilities or are not wanted by their families and have to live in institutions because they have disabilities. Also, the band has not been able to tour anywhere, athough they planned to tour Australia on a couple of occasions but were refused. |

Here's a question re 1960s Oz music. Is there an anthology of stuff by the Black Diamonds? The few things I've heard from this band just flatten me against the opposite wall in wonder. Especially "See the Way." Absolutely perfect mid-60s rock in every way. |

Sorry, Randy, I have never EVER heard of the Black Diamonds, nor have I seen a single record by them. |

They show up on an anthology on Big Beat International called "Hot Generation." The two songs of theirs are "See the Way" and "Not This Time." They apparently come from Lithgow and morphed into a group called Tymepiece after moving to Sydney. The songwriter in their midst was Alan Oloman. If the notes to the CD antho are right, they only cut two singles (on Festival) but I was hoping maybe the notes were wrong. Stylewise, think of a somewhat more pop Who or Creation. |
