I remember buying Three Dog Night - Suitable For Framing, on vinyl way back in September of 1969! Over the years I've come to enjoy TDN's best-of but wasn't interested in venturing beyond that. At the very least they did do some solids in the departments of exposure and royalties for folks like Nilsson, Newman and Hiatt. | ||

Stump - Charlton Heston. Stump is the band btw, not a previously unheard classic track from Mr NRA. Stump were Irish and, like many other bands from Cork, a little weird. OK, a lot weird. There's a bit of PIL there, though not in Charlton Heston, which is about the bible (sort of) and features a great line "Lights, camel, action" and a genius chorus "Charlton Heston put his vest on" | ||

Breakthrough - Richard Wright A very beautiful song sung by Sinead o'Connor on RW's Broken China solo album, and which is also featured in a great swinging-chorus version on David Gilmour's Meltdown concert DVD. I always had a soft spot for this discreet but talented musician, who often seemed to get pushed to the sidelines by the mammoth Roger Water ego and Gilmour's barnstorming guitar playing. RIP, Mr Wright. | ||

Stuart, that Sinead o'Connor sure has a set of pipes on her. She also did a nice guest vocal on Phil Coulter's Lake of Shadows album on the song "Shores of The Swilley". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xltvpZ0Ek qM As far as the Wright, Waters, Mason and Gilmour PF line-up, I lost interest in the albums that came after Wish You Were Here. They sure had a nice run though starting with Meddle, DSOTM and WYWH when Mr. Wright was featured more in the songs. I can't remember the last time I sat down and listened to The Wall, and I never bought any of the late 80's albums. | ||

The Wall was a pretty wretched affair I thought, but I have to say I enjoyed the Division Bell - some great clanging tunes and some enjoyable "Fie at thee Waters, we still exist" sort of lyrics. The Meltdown concert mentioned above is an unplugged affair with some nice covers - Dimming of the day for instance - a strong Sam Brown-led choir and, fundamentally, a foxy cellist. I do have a weakness for a foxy cellist. | ||
