Samll venue (Salzhaus), small but devoted crowd. Brilliant gig, way better than even reading about the tour led me to expect. What's so good? Well, the slow steady build from a man, his guitar and lone voice to a band in full fantastic flight pouring out gem after gem. I love the new prominence of the backing vocals, especially Adele's - really enriches the songs. I love Glenn's guitar playing - unquestionably doing justice to Grant's memory while plucking in his own style too. And the 21 year old drummer, Matthew! How does it feel for him be handed all these brilliant songs and then to play with the man behind many of them. Lucky bastard. He was excellent too. Best of all was just the plain craic evident throughout - clearly loving what they do (or they're damn good actors!). Adele & Glenn go well together, bouncing off each other and singing together into a shared mike. Robert was just hilarious during "Caroline & I" - no instrument, just Robert performing loose sort of effenimate gyrations all over the shop. Great stuff. And Matthew & Glenn even swapped places for a song which was something a little different. Oh and the keyboards added their own little spice too. And finally, the set list - can't remember the order but Spring Rain was shiveringly brilliant. "Too Much of One Thing" was fantastic too. Then there was Clouds, Dive for your Memory, "Draining...." "Demon Days" "German Farmhouse" with an impressive intro auf Deutsch! Darlinghurst Years (intro'ed as Sydney '83).The list goes on & on and at the end (2 short intervals) after about 2 1/2 hours, the crowd stayed clapping for a good 5 mins., genuine appreciation. Afterwards, the band hung around chatting away to anyone who wanted to talk, signing albums between relaxed chat. There isn't a better gig experience (I get my sex & drugs elsewhere - this was definitely rock & roll at its very best). PS Will post some photos later. |

Thanks, Ulrich. Agree with Randy, your video does have lovely sound - crystal clear. The sound was great all night - and not taxing on the ears even when parked right below the speakers! I bought the 16LL CD at the gig (again!) and had it signed by RF & Adele. It has a bonus CD & 3 videos. I love the videos - oh the style and the relationships that must have been ticking....though you wouldn't think it. Amanda, especially, looks very happy, in fact. They all look brilliant even Robert in his lipstick! |
