im here spence, but limited myself to lurking for the last couple of months. Mainly cos I'm still interested in reading what some people have to say, especially you, Padraig and Randy. However, the urge to post receded by the day, I found that my musical taste was getting more and more out of sync with most folks, and fuck me I know the G-b's werent Slipknot and could verge on AOR, but at times this place was like a Hall and Oates fanclub going by what some people were listening to. No offence to anyone intended, but its like when you stop enjoying going to a pub you just go elsewhere, but try to keep in touch without letting go totally

OK Kev, take it easy man, we all have disagreements I suppose, don;t be stranger :-) PS Why don;t we create a virtual GB's message bar!!! Drinks are on me (well they would be if I mentioned Crowded Hou*e in this message!!)

Yeah, tell me about it. I remember a while back when this place was like a Fleet Foxes fan club. And before that I could've sworn the board had been commandeered by the headquarters of the official Bruce Springsteen fan club. And then more recently, the board was a-glow with Randy Newman obsessives coming out proudly in droves. ;)

And what was I - a fan of none of the above - to do? Pack up and leave? Sulk? Drop a bomb on the thread and declare such and such band or such and such musical era to be complete and utter shit? Nah. At the end of the day, I figure this place might be less interesting if everyone's tastes mirrored my own. And I've always appreciated how so many of us arrived at the Go-Betweens from such disparate musical paths. Plus, I love reading the thoughts/observations of people on this board - like Randy and Spence, to name just a few - for whom I have enormous admiration and respect. Hence, I don't plan on going anywhere.

Thank you Jeff. Like a number of us on here I usually keep quiet on said subject, on the theory that doing so is an implicit statement of your words above. But, of course, sometimes those words have to be put right out there, as a jolt to the memory.

Well said Jeff, and thanks for the kind comment, back at ya, with sugar on top too!.

And you know, I said this before, Kev is a punk (as in the movement not the ccriminal as used in many Starsky and Hutch seasons on DVD!! GOD I LOVE THOSE TWO!!), and always will be, he keeps the faith, i bloody well admire that. Also, if it wasn't for kev, in the early days, I don;t think I'd have bothered staying on here, it was Kev that got me into it so to speak, and I am gad he did, as there are some fantsatic people on here. We don;t know each other in a as Randy once said, a 3d way, but we're getting there. And if you lot can put up with me and my whote boy indie anecdotal traits, then we can all put up with each other. Long live Kev,and, er, Obama.

That thing with Kev materializing from the ether as an unregistered guest kind of freaks me out, like he's a disembodied voice from the shadowy beyond or something. I guess it is almost Halloween. Still, it's unsettling. Now, let's get back to that Randy Newman record...

It's a great feckin' record! Best I've heard since Springsteen's last one!

Not entirely sure that's the musically fastidious Scot, though. How are we sure it ain't one of them annoying people wot likes to uses aliases? I've never heard him talk about Slipknot...

I think that's whats so special about Gbs, they interesect at a strange point in musical genre/taste. Theres every genre (I wish we could ban that idea of genre!!) somewhere in there and in the solo stuff like Horsebreaker and Danger. I don't think there's a formula to predict a Gbs fan, and I'm thankful for that. The arguments/debates on this board make it so darn interesting to check in every day, even if the urge to write something is often lacking. Shit I'm going to a CougerMellanacmp gig next month! How did that happen!

I listened to Fleet Foxes last week & reluctantly loved it.

Jeff, I don't know if you've heard but Cadbury's Wispa is back. The promotion reads 'Some things should stay in the '80's' Tell everyone you know but say it quietly.

I don't know a lot of the musical references mentioned here (Fleet Foxes - who are they?), but it's still always worth visiting, and if it wasn't for this forum I'd probably not be listening to The House of Love. And I'm still trying to persuade people to listen to Laura Veirs, though as she sometimes has a banjo on her records I guess it's not likely to be one for Kev! Punks on banjos? Now there's a thought...

Take it from another unregistered guest who's lurked for awhile: I don't think that was the real Kevin who posted on 10/19. First, as full of shit as he often was, he never made up stuff like accusing people here of being Hall and Oates fans. He'd attack Crowded House, Wilco, Springsteen, the Beatles, or something of more artistic merit that he hated that but knew others liked--not some random MOR nobodies that I daresay have NEVER been mentioned favorably on the board. And what's with the Slipknot reference? Our Kev would never make a backhanded dis of the Go-Betweens by mentioning Slipknot. He'd mention his beloved Fall, Joy Division, Burial, or some currently critically adored artist that hip UK critics are all singing hosannahs over (Fleet Foxes, anyone?), that he actually listens to, NOT some American cock-rock has-beens that I guarantee you he never listened to.

Methinks you've all been had. Or if it really was Kev, how the mighty have fallen. He used to give such good argument.

Actually, at the Vienna gig, Adele was talking about the fact that they were rehearsing a new song during soundchecks. I think I remember her saying something about it sounding very like Slipknot...

Although I did have a lot to drink that night...

Wispas are back? They rocked my youth! I hope they make it back to Australia at a recession-busting price.

I've thought that for a long time Joe, but you mentioned it first. Bring it on.
