http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2008/nov /10/miriam-makeba-dies-76 Sad news. A few weeks ago a friend played at the first ever jazz festival in Uganda and he was on just before Miriam Makeba. He said that her concert was wonderful. |

I saw her once, with Paul Simon back during the "Graceland" tour. She's a towering figure in South Africa and a cultural icon. RIP, indeed. |
