I've always really liked the New Pornographers. This makes me like them even more: Couriermail.com.au October 8, 2008 Question time Keeping in this spirit, it seems a suitable time to ask a riddle: What's the connecting point between Electric Light Orchestra and The Go-Betweens? Answer: The New Pornographers, doing a spot of looking back themselves in their set at The Zoo in Brisbane on Tuesday. They included two cover versions: Don't Bring Me Down by ELO and Love Goes On by The Go-Betweens. The band's leader, A.C. Newman, introduced the song in tribute to the Brisbane band's late songwriter, Grant McLennan. |

According to Pop Matters, A.C. Newman wanted to cover "Love Goes On" in the Starbucks' Valentine Day CD he was to do a song for, but they rejected it. He ended up doing Ah-Ha's "Take On Me." Boycott Starbucks! Austin (in a militant mood) |

I already do Austin since it was revealed that every Starbucks in the world leaves their taps running 24/7 in order to "optimise the water used in the coffee" or some such nonsense. I've never set foot it there since and I never will. |

Neither will I, unless I'm passing one and fancy a coffee. |

That and they can't make coffee - they've recently closed most of their stores in Oz thankfully |

Starbucks was in Australia? I didn't know that. Who needs them when you can walk into any place and order an excellent flat white? In the U.S., coffee is really dicey. Starbucks became a huge success here because however unwonderful their product might be it was head and shoulders better than coffee served in most modest American eateries. While there are other specific Starbucks competitors now, it is still true that undrinkable coffee is what you will get in the majority of American restaurants. |

I get a different two pounds a month as a member of the Mud Of The Month Club from these guys: http://www.coffeeguys.com/ As far as Starbucks, I avoid them if there is a Caribou Coffee around or an independent that I know of. |
