Such a shame it wasn't a deep sea diving boot(s)! This is absolutely fu*in unbelievable, Jeez me it makes me sick. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/america s/7784197.stm They missed showing the faces of all the people killed due to his farce of an 8 reign. I am angry. |

Bush, and his henchmen Cheney and Rice and the rest of that nasty crew are all doing the White House spin on Iraq these days. It's revolting and only registering with the 27% that approve of Bushco. Look for ex-Florida Governor Jeb Bush to run for the US Senate in 2010 and run against Obama in 2012. |

Jeb hasn't a hope Michael. The name Bush is now electoral poison. |

I wonder if Jeb's pissed off at his brother for killing his political career. |

Padraig and Jeff, I agree that doesn't have a hope in 2012 in a national election, but the voters in Florida still like Jeb, so he still might win a seat in the US Senate in 2010. I never though I would say agree with him on anything, but thumbs up to Dubya for granting TARP funds to GM and Chrysler this morning. Allowing GM and Chrysler to go Chapter 11 would have plunged the US Midwest down the toilet, not to mention the ripple effects throughout the rest of the nation. |

I agree, Michael. While I think Randy's insightful post on the "financial crisis" thread was spot-on - there might not be a long-term future for a US auto industry - I think letting the industry go belly-up at this point in time could prove calamitous in the short-term. The senators from Nissan, Toyota and BMW who torpedoed the original bailout weren't thinking big picture, I'd argue. |

Rob, I agree with you on those GOP senators from the southeast with transplant assmembly facilities in their states. They were not thinking big picture, as the transplants share some US suppliers with GM, Chrysler and Ford. Some of those suppliers would have gone belly-up had the TARP funds not been made available. Even though we are 40 some percent non-automotive, the robotics company I work for would have been hurt bad by a GM and Chrysler bankruptcy. Hopefully we can get some new orders from the Big 3 now, as bookings for 2009 have been way down so far. The transplant companies have helped somewhat though, as the Japanese auto philosphy is to re-tool during slow times. Most of our robots are made in Japan, except for the robots that paint the cars and trucks and those are 75% domestic content and are assembled at our Michigan headquarters. |
