Aw, c'mon, man...you gotta find room for Byrne and Eno's "Strange Overtones" on there--even the 'fork gave it some props.

Thank you for not putting those damn Fleet Foxes on your list.

5. Demon Days – Robert Forster
6. Lost Coastlines – Okkervil River
7. Crick In My Neck – Cass McCombs

Sorry to offend Dr Girlfriend but in my book those damn Fleet Foxes are a thing of beauty!
I remember Padraig posted a year end best of disc here last year, any other takers?
Ewan, your Mr. Forsty Pants' "Quiet Heart" at his Dublin show was possibly the live highlight of the year for me, that and "Johnsburg, Illinois" by Tom Waits in Barcelona.

o.k. i often pointed out that this port o brien song 'i woke up today' is my favourite one. simple but makes happy. but it is more than necessary to put the following on the list of the fave songs of the year:

blue ridge mountain - fleet foxes (since months i can't get this song out of my head)
mykonos - fleet foxes
white winter hymnal - fleet foxes
jealous enemies - dark captain light captain
lies - the black keys
the red river - micah blue smaldone
premonition - esbjörn svenson trio
and this elbow song hardin mentions is also a real highlight even when i didn't own the album, but to listen to it on the radio is pleasure for me and my wife, too.
cheers,

andreas

skulldisco and I don't agree that much, but I gotta go with "Machine Gun" by Portishead too. Brutal, but you can't turn it off.

That's right, she's only a poor girl with a case of hopeless hero worship for ETM's writing style. It's kevin who's the fourth alter-ego...

In fact, due to the very promising last therapy session we had, perhaps it's time to come out and admit to ourselves that there's really only one person here on this board...

If true, Allen, that person has some VERY conflicted feeling about certain artists.

Below are my favorites. (Rules I follow each year: Album released in current year. One song by each artist only. No re-makes (but you will see that I broke this rule - couldn't resist). Looking forward to checking out the songs above that I don't know. Oh, and picking the MGMT song was the hardest. I can't stop listening to the first 7 songs on that CD!

1) Demon Days Robert Forster
2) The Righteous Path Drive-By Truckers
3) Kids MGMT
4) My Year In Lists Los Campesinos!
5) Pork and Beans Weezer
6) Whose Authority Nada Surf
7) The Nun's Litany Magnetic Fields
8) Get Better Mates of State
9) About To Walk Throw Me The Statue
10) Ghost Under Rocks Ra Ra Riot
11) Thirty One Today Aimee Mann
12) 7 Keys Aqualung
13) Where Do You Run To Vivian Girls
14) Tessellate Tokyo Police Club
15) The Silence Between Us Bob Mould
16) You Cheated Me Martha Wainwright
17) I Love You Like A Madman The Wave Pictures
18) Kim & Jessie M83
19) Before It Gets Better Earlimart
20) Underneath the Weeping Willow Young Rapture Choir

How could I have heard my first song of MGMT only last week...

And I've also missed some other very good things. Rara Riots, Get well soon (from Germany, absolutely brilliant), Metronomy, etc. Next week i'll fill the gaps at the discobus and rent all these cd's.

Peter, Belles Will Ring (psych pop / Byrdsish) and Holly Throsby (folk pop) are Australian and Broken West (Beatlesey power pop mostly) and Felice Brothers (Dylan gone country) are American.
