Having always been both a fan of obscure/outsider art and somebody with a taste for a nice-looking collection when he can afford it, I recently made a small investment in the first couple of CDs from (literal) rare-groove reissue label Numero Group. Being more of a melodic-and-European guy and less of a soul/gospel guy (which is not to suggest that either escape my radar when brilliant), I've been most looking forward to listening to the fourth disc in the series, a 2-CD compilation of tracks from the old power-pop fanzine (correct term?) Yellow Pills. Perusing the neat little catalog my shipment came with, I suddenly noticed a familiar image in the display photograph for said CD. It was the image of the Colors 7" that shows up on the "Robert Vickers Discography" link on the GBs' site. And wouldn't you know, the compilation, which is remastered and gorgeously packaged, contains three tracks by Robert's old band, including the titular track from said single. Perhaps most of you have already heard the Colors' work a thousand times over, but I look forward to diving in and sharing my thoughts. Seems as if my Go-Betweens fixes are now getting cosmically fed for me. |
