is it just me or is there a remarkable similarity between the intro to 'M.E' by Gary Numan on Replicas and 'Wheres your head at?' by Basement Jaxx?
so remarkable in fact that one might say it was exactly the same but slower?

Haven't heard the Numan song. Love much of Basement Jaxx, including Where's Your Head At.

And then there is the Coldplay vs Joe Statriani thing.
As bad as some of you think they are though, can you imagine Coldplay having even HEARD any Joe Satriani?
I can't.

Cosmo, I like early Numan/Tubeway, but after 1982, i think he went downhill.

Re this being a rip off, The Jaxx's mega hit is exactly the same chord progression/note run, there's no doubt about that. I'd say they probably did rip it off, and BIG time, I mean they are day kings along with many others of modern day electronica. In these days of sampling being so utterly widespread etc, I don't see it a as a big deal unless your are the artist who ultimately deserves the recognition and the PRS cheques, and if they ain't forthcoming, then it goes all legal don;t it? They may have sought clearance with publisher's? I dunno.

Metal from PP is superb, its on now.

On another rip off note, I am sure that Boz/Whyte from Morrissey's group ripped off many Strangelove songs in order to produce How Can Anybody Possibly Know How I Feel? from You are the quarry album. Though no one's probably ever gonna draw the same conclusion as me, being the Strangelove freak that I am!

On the new Dylan album, the track My Wifes Hometown is a massive steal of Willie Dixons old blues song I Just Wanna Make Love To You

Spence- thanks for that. I am the same with Numan strictly Replicas/Pleasure Principle/Telekon for me. No problem with sampling or stealing just think they should give credit where it's due

Re the Dylan track, the album credits "music by Bob Dylan and Willie Dixon" for My Wife's Home Town, so as steals go I guess it's honest.
