I would like to publicly state, prior to my being able to shoot him a thank-you e-mail, that Andrew Kerr is a heck of a guy. Because of his deep fan-ship and seemingly innate generosity, I was able to sit down in the dark with my sweetheart last night and hear all two enchanting minutes of the "Baby Stones" B-side that I could never find anywhere at all - plus, by way of Mr. Collins, some of the most charming Grant interviews I've ever heard (and Grant is more idol to me than Dylan or Lennon), plus the rivetingly kinetic last gig, plus the gorgeous duet of "Haven't I Been A Fool" that's on the impossible-to-locate "Surfing Magazines" b-side, plus much, much more. I'm saying all this because for somebody who cares as deeply about art as I do - something the Go-Betweens as songwriters very nearly exemplify - these were singular moments of my life, which is not to imply that my life is all sitting and listening, but sometimes the soundtrack is as moving as the action. (Would that half my romantic encounters felt like "Bachelor Kisses" does.) The people on this board, particularly the people who dominate it, truly respect the bond that is forged by a mutual love for something like the Go-Betweens. They're terrific people. So hats off and glasses up to people like Mr. Kerr, Mr. Collins, and the rest, and may this board continue to thrive as the voice of the slice of humanity the Go-Betweens changed for as long as their legacy lingers. The Go-Betweens clearly respected beauty and friendship above all, and there's beauty in every kind of friendship you can forge. I can only imagine how many wandering souls have found friendships of sorts on this board over the years. That is all! Victor |

What a great post, Victor! And, yes, we HAVE found fantastic friendships here. Speaking for myself, my world has literally expanded thanks to the people on this board. The personalities of both Robert and Grant have functioned as light bulbs to we sympathetic moths. And, yes, Andrew distinguished himself for me long ago when he sent me copies of the entirety of the Chills' Secret Box. |

Thanks a lot for the kind words Victor ! And you express perfectly what the music of the Go-Betweens means to the majority of the people on this board I would imagine. |

Nice post Victor. That Grant interview wasn't me though. I did interview Grant over the phone but didn't record it on tape, just by notes. The interviews you're referring to are terrific though. |

The Grant interview that lasts around 20 minutes is one I did with him in '87 the morning after a Edinburgh gig. I had a friend who was a music journalist and was sent to interview Grant. Trouble was he had never even heard a G-Bs record in his life, so called on me to accompany him. The first question that he asked (something like "how is your new record different from the one before ?") was immediately turned back to him by Grant...."You were at the gig so you tell me.." The hot potato was then passed to me ! It was a beautiful sunny morning and the birds were singing away. A nice memory, and Grant was a real gentleman even with my fumbling 'fan' questions. |

You see, I didn't actually even realize that any of you fellows had a part in conducting the interviews. I just wanted to give you, Mr. Collins, credit for the recordings Mr. Kerr had said you supplied to him. But that's absolutely fascinating; I really enjoyed that '87 interview. |

A couple of the discs came from me. They came from our New Jersey correspondent in the first place so I was very happy to pass them on. |
