1. neu - neu 75
2. kraftwerk - man machine(although could easily be trans europe express or computer world)

I never considered Kraftwerk Krautrock. Was that wrong of me? I've always thought of them as technopop. German, yes. But they never sounded like Neu, Faust, Can, et al., so I never lumped 'em in with that camp.

I love Neu's 75, Faust's IV, and, if we're calling them Kraftwerk Krautrock too, then Man Machine, Computer World, and Autobahn all get my vote.

To this day, I've never really been able to warm up to Can. File under "one of those band I don't get that everyone else loves."

Neu!
Can - Future Days
Kraftwerk - Trans Europe Express.
(Jeff I would consider early Werk as Krautrock, the modern stuff obviously less so.)

I don't really think Kraftwerk's sound is comparable to that of Neu, Can, Faust etc either. It is infinitely better. The best description I ever heard of Kraftwerk - by a journalist taking part in a radio program I was presenting about Trans-Europe Express - was that they are Electronic Folk music.

Neu! - Neu 75
Faust - IV
Can - Tago Mago, or maybe Ege Bamyasi or Future Days? It's one of those three tough and probably Tago.

the kraftwerk discussion

you have to split kraftwerk. in the beginning they were a so called krautrock band. there first albums sounded ''similar'' like neu!, just because michael rother was a band member (and also klaus dinger played drums as a studio musician, as far as i can remember). autobahn must be called the changing album. and then they went electronic only. i am not sure if you can call the time thereafter really krautrock. but undoubtely they make great music and i would say that this kind of music is much better than waht they did at the beginning.

trans europa express (german version) is my favourite.
