Seems a bit far fetched and is probably a misprint.........

I presume that story was written by Nick Kelly. He and Grant shared many a pint.

What's a misprint??? That Grant couldn't abide the taste of Guinness. So what if he couldn't. Believe me it is an aquired taste. If you think everyone in Ireland likes Guinness, you're wrong. Mind you, I love it.

Hi Lewisdhead, I wasn't being serious! Happy Arthur's Day, have some draught in the fridge.

It may have been George Byrne either Padraig, he has referenced having drinks with Grant around Dublin before though I doubt he would get a decent Long Island Ice Tea in any of the bars mentioned in the article.. a pint of plain is yer only man!

Is the Nick Kelly you mention from The Fat Lady Sings? He is playing Whelans soon as a double header with Dr Millar.
I see Nick Kelly on bylines here and his photo recently and it didn't look like the same fella.

Shone like an arclight....

Different Nick Kelly Peter, but I know both of them! The Fat Lady Sings version lectured me in law in college! Yes, George Byrne was also involved in those drinking sessions. He and Nick are old Hot Press mates.

Hi Peter Ward. My apologies. I feel a bit of an idiot now. I did think you were being serious, and jumped in there a bit aggressivly.

Sincerely, I apologise.

When I went to the O2 Greenwich recently, the cheapest way to get bladdered was with pitchers of cocktails. That was £15 for 5 drinks as opposed to £13 for a pair of double vodkas. So wifey & I decided on New England iced teas, neither of us had ever tried them before. They're basically pretty sweet headspinners that look like Thames water. I always start an evening session with a Guinness or 2.

I get the feeling Grant wasn't really a laddish type, so he's not bound by the old rules of macho stereotyping which are rampant here & in Australia. Robert F however is a fan of black Irish poetry, with a thick white head I'm sure.

No need Lewisdhead.
Jerry, I assume it's a variation on the Long Island? strong stuff, after a couple of pitchers they may well have been serving you Thames water!

Give me a Double Diamond over a Guinness anyday. In fact, there are a lot of Scots and English brews I like better.

My current favorite IPA:

I had several Long Island Iced teas when on holiday in greece in July, we came to the conclusion that One was good and 2 not so especially when you included a bottle of local wine. They are quite strong!!

So have we decided that Grant was more of a man for preferring a girl's drink.

I'm a fan of IPA, Michael. In a way it makes the old empire worthwhile.
