Phoebe Bridgers - Motion Sickness

Really looking forward to her first album. As for this song I'll be a real trainspotter and I say that I prefer the demo version that was the B side of the "Smoke Signals" vinyl 45. It is less polished and more atomspheric like this live version

Psychedelic Furs last night in Bristol - I think the review in the Bristol Evening Post is pretty fair (I tried to link it but it went haywire so you'll have to search for it). Though I'd love to have heard Alice's House (my favourite PF song) and President Gas. Butler was in fine sub-David Bowie form (that's not meant to sound cynical!) and he's now looking like John Hurt and has a great gritty-sounding bourbon-and-fags-sounding voice. He's also looking ridiculously good, with a far-too-good head of hair for a man of 61. Says the 54-year-old with a thinning thatch...

Ornella Vanoni giving us Genesis as Italo-ballad:

I wish the whole album (of the same title) was this cool but you have to skip covers of other less interesting songs like "Bridge Over Troubled Water" and "Imagine." Well, it was 1972. The handful of proper Italian songs make this 1/2 a good album.

The National - Carin At The Liquor Store

Andrew, I see a nice version of Smoke Signals from that same studio session on YouTube also. A real talent, I missed her Dublin appearance recently as support to & part of Conor Oberst's band.

Thanks for that Trou! Love that D chord rave-up! The video's been there for over three years and has fewer than 1000 views. Amazing.

Another Grant Hart song - Is the Sky the Limit.
R.I.P.

I recommend the entertaining documentary called "Every Everything: The Music, Life & Times of Grant Hart".

Claire Denamur - Rien de moi

Just a short hop from her pretty song on the soundtrack of L'hermine to this attractive opener to her fine second album. That hoarse catch in her voice is irresistible.

Harry Dean Stanton - Blue Eyes Crying in The Rain

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7KrANPZh oFI

RIP.

Loved him in Repo Man. And it's weird when I think of seeing "Paris, Texas" on its initial release and wondering what all the fuss was about. Years later I saw it again and it completely floored me. Stanton's performance is just incredible.

Repo Man is great. Haven't seen it for a very long time though. Even longer since I saw Paris, Texas. I know what you mean about wondering what the fuss was about. That didn't happen with Paris, Texas for me, but has happened with many other films. Paris, Texas blew me away immediately.

The Go-Betweens - Streets Of Your Town, live at the Barbican version. It has been a very long time since I played this version. I'd forgotten what a delicate, different take it is. Not radically different by and stretch, just different.

Isn't that awesome? I was just playing that tune the other night in the car, and even repeated it a couple times to listen to the lyrics, which are terrific.

The Clique - I am Superman.

I knew it through the REM cover version, which owes so very, very much to the original, which is possibly why it sounded do timeless on Life's Rich Pageant (one of the few albums I had with me - on cassette! - in 1988 when I was living in Sydney)

Ambra Borelli - la mosca bianca

Great little Italian beat number produced by Lucio Battisti in those resplendent years when he had talent and energy to burn.
