Telefís - a hAon (it's Irish for Television - One)

https://telefis.bandcamp.com

Randy, take notice, it's Cathal Coughlan with fellow Irishman (and Calabasas resident) Jacknife Lee.

Closer to Fatima Mansions than Microdisney, so be careful out there.

It's fabulous.

I wouldn't say it's at all close to FM, Pádraig. There's none of that nerve-grating guitar shredding that always sent me to the "skip" button on the CD player with the Mansions. But for me the Irish Californian doesn't add something appealing. It's great to hear Cathal's voice as always. I like his most recent solo album much better.

Peter Doherty & Frédéric Lo - The Fantasy Life Of Poetry & Crime

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvfMDXz- RTg

Here’s some fantasy close to my own, that a dapper European pop composer might hear me whining away casually in some bar and, sidling up, murmur, “Your imprecise voice and dodgy poetry is exactly what I’ve been looking for in a collaborator…”…followed by an invitation to a nice bit of Normandy real estate, a front room studio, a snappy band and a sweetly starstruck string section (see video). I’ve never followed PD’s career since his early Libertine days, apart from tabloid antics now and then: now he’s less the skinny likely lad of yore and more a comfy Farmer Giles of Ham, throwing his slapdash couplets into Lo’s attractive melodic inventions. I’m a bit swithery about the whole thing, but it does draw me in.

Swithery? Okay, scratch that and, having watched the film 4 times in 2 days, replace with "mildly obsessed"...

I think we need to hear from Simon Swithers on your taking his name in vain.

Junglehammer - Romeo Tree. A Sydney jazz/funk/soul band. I bought the CD years ago from a bargain bin. I think it was 50 cents. And today, having come across it again, I’m finally playing it. And it’s a great, fun listen. The lyrics are trite, but the music is so good, it doesn’t matter. If this was from Detroit in the 70s rather than Sydney in the 00s it might be considered something of a lost classic.

Seatbelts - Spanish Songs. I'm taking a wild guess that these Liverpudlians are aware of the existence of The Go-Betweens. https://wearseatbelts.bandcamp.com/track /spanish-songs-2

Saw King Of Convenience this week for a gig that smelled the good old time before covid. No restrictions anymore in Luxembourg. Pretty music and a very enjoyable evening.

Sorry that the today's concert of Midlake is cancelled, with no report as for some other dates of their tour. Despite that I should see Fontaine DC et M. Ward in april.
