Pádraig, great call.

Raining Pleasure (followed by Hell of a Summer) - the Triffids. What a great pairing...

Also a great call, Simon.

Jason Collett - Too Much. So beautifully Beatley.

C Duncan - Say

Session version here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-NLuJJP sVY.

A friend sent me his CD "Architect". She was raving about it and I can see why. Absolutely beautiful.

Love that whole record, Simon. For months on end in 1992 I played it every single day.

Jens Lekman - And I Remember Every Kiss

Just heard this on French radio, it was playing as I was going out and the chorus stopped me in my tracks...big wow!

The lyrics are a little weird. Naming a gun after your girlfriend ?

PS With you on that Lemonheads record. Listened to it so much. Great record.

Jens Lekman is great, especially the Oh You're So Silent Jens compilation. Great words and melodies. Check out his homepage 'presents':
http://jenslekman.com/presents.htm

I would recommend:
The Opposite Of Hallelujah
You Are The Light
Me on the beach (Nagisa Ni Te)
I don't know if she's worth 900 kr

The first time I saw Lekman, some 10 years ago, he was a guy making sampled indie pop in his bedroom. But live he had a big band, with a stand-up drummer, brass and a choir of volunteers. Very enjoyable. It made GBs Live in London seem small.

Icecream Hands - Yellow & Blue. Perfect power pop for a sunny, late winter day in Sydney.

The Vines - Sun child

This sounded perfect today, as rainclouds gave way to pale sunshine and coolness radiated from the hills.

Yes Andrew this is indeed a camped up version of what might be the most bathetic number from the Bee Gees' late 60s group-and-orchestra period. The problem for Mssrs. Quinn and Collins is it's hard to out-camp Robin Gibb's warble. Believe it or not the original was a decent-sized hit in the U.S.. Dunno about the U.K..

Simon & Garfunkel - Scarborough Fair/Canticle

RIP Bob Johnston ("Is it rolling, Bob ?")

His autobiography (on-line) looks like a fascinating read at http://www.bobjohnstonbook.com/

Thanks for the link Andrew! Even skipping the stuff about his family history it looks like I'll be pretty busy reading.

Box tops - I pray for rain

Reading an Uncut review of Spooner Oldham's "long lost solo album" just as this gorgeous song floated on to the CD player... hmmmm, wonder who wrote that? I thought, sliding out the insert...nice moment...

The Legal Matters - The Legend of Walter Wright. What is it with power poppers and the name Walter? There's this and Michael Penn's Walter Reed. OK, that's only two, but it's two more power pop songs written about Walters than most other names.

The Apartments – No Song No Spell No Madrigal.

The very fine 2015 album have been the sad soundtrack to my summer. The song The House That We Once Lived In has some Grant song echoes that I still haven't been able to make more of (the melody, the phrasing, the guitar?). String arrangements by Peter Walsh and Amanda Brown.

Also: The Cairo Gang - Gone Missing.

Another great album, this time a power pop celebration by Will Oldham's guitar playing collaborator.
