ah! I thought Hamburg would be a band show too! It was interesting to hear these songs without Adele & Glenn. Especially the earlier songs seemed to fit "Die Türen". They rocked! Robert told the audience that he arrived in Berlin on Monday and rehearsed for the whole week. I thought for just 2 shows, but as it turned out for just this one. The stage was set on the roof terrace of the Haus der Kulturen der Welt. After some rain and 2 rainbows during the support they played a great set, just Bass, Drums, 2 Guitars and occasionally some keyboards. | ||

In Berlin sind die Touristen dagegen die Einzigen, die nicht so aussehen, als befänden sie sich auf Malle. Ausgenommen vielleicht auf der Biermeile, die an diesem Wochenende mal wieder die Karl-Marx-Allee in Friedrichshain säumte. Hier torkelten Berliner und Touristen gleichermaßen ungehemmt umher. 2.000 verschiedene Biersorten konnten probiert werden, was zur Folge hatte, dass schon morgens um 10 Uhr zwei auf Schlaganfälle spezialisierte Einsatzwagen des Roten Kreuz auf den Nächsten warteten, der zu viel Mango- oder Honigbier bei einem Wetter getrunken hat, bei dem es heißt, man solle eigentlich gar keinen Alkohol zu sich nehmen. Wie man auch im Hochsommer seine Würde bewahren kann, das demonstrierten Robert Forster bei seinem Konzert im Haus der Kulturen der Welt und Lee Fields im Lido. Gut, Forster durfte im Freien spielen, aber er hätte dennoch in Versuchung kommen können, wenigstens seine Hemdsärmel hochzukrempeln. Aber das hätte eben den Gesamteindruck ein wenig getrübt, und dafür ist der ehemalige Sänger der in den Achtzigern einmal fast berühmten Band The Go-Betweens viel zu sehr anglophiler Dandy. Der Mann hatte schon immer Stil und hat bestimmt noch nie Shorts getragen, und das, obwohl er Australier ist. Robert Forster sah auch an diesem Abend noch aus wie einem Film von James Ivory entsprungen, mit seiner Noblesse, seinen unaufgeregten Gesten und dem perfekten Haarschnitt. Am Ende hatte er vergessen, wie nochmal der Bassist seiner ganz offensichtlich kurzfristig für den Auftritt in Berlin zusammengecasteten Begleitband hieß. Aber auch dieses Problem konnte mit Charme und ohne, dass sich dabei ein Schweißfleck unter dem Hemd bildete, gelöst werden. Lee Fields hatte es im Lido schon schwerer als Forster, dessen Auftritt immer ein laues Lüftchen begleitete. Der Soulsänger wandelt schließlich auf den Spuren von James Brown, dem einst "hardest working man in showbusiness". Aber auch wenn sich Lee Fields die Lunge aus dem Leib schrie in dem fensterlosen Konzertsaal oder seine fiebrigen Soulballaden croonte und der Schweiß strömte, dauerte es eine Weile, bis er sich schließlich seines Jacketts entledigte. Lee Fields ist schon seit über 40 Jahren im Geschäft, aber bis vor kurzem war er nur ein Gerücht unter Soulliebhabern. Erst seit ein paar Jahren hat er Erfolg genug, um mit einem Jackett nicht auszusehen, als hätte er sich verkleidet. Inzwischen kann er sich tatsächlich auch italienische Anzüge leisten. Aber mit seinem schwarzen Hemd zur schwarzen Hose sah er auch ohne Jackett immer noch so staatsmännisch aus wie vor kurzem Barack Obama bei seinem Berlinbesuch. From a couple of e-mail exchanges I heard that he was accompanied by two members of the John Steel Singers on guitar and bass, occasionally his wife on violin and for a few songs Mick Harvey on drums. His son (Louis/Lewis ?) joined for one song on guitar. Maybe a couple of new songs were played, 'I'm Going To Tell It' and 'Disaster in Motion' ? | ||
