Just 2 more days to go ! On their Facebook page the promoters have this to say : "Just coming from the rehearsals with Robert Forster / Jherek Bischoff & String Quartett here in Cologne. It’s… without words. The arrangements are made for his songs!!!! Better don't miss it." Can't wait. The train to Cologne leaves tomorrow, passing churches, passing stations. But neither Etterzhausen nor Frankfurt Central on my particular route... |

It actually happened, Robert joined Grant Hart for "2541" during Hart's set opening the Festival today. |

For the moment just my emotions in german first - sorry guys ;) That's what I wrote on their FACEBOOK sit. What a wonderful festival! Stephen - you have to tour germany much more often! Young Marble Giants! Wonderful work, Jherek! I've Been Looking for Somebody". |

That was a great great festival indeed, with the climax right at the end. Robert in suit and tie, starting of with a couple of solo tunes, then joined by Jherek Bischoff on stand up bass (also handling guitar and bass drum during the course of the show) for 2 further songs, after that the string quartet joined. Those string arrangements suited the songs to a t, that Mr Bischoff did an amazing job there. Here's hoping this cooperation will be continued in the future. Highlights for me were People Say which was transformed into something else, slower and waltz-like; Draining The Pool (forever a favorite of mine) and City, which saw Robert, free of his guitar, dancing and prancing along the stage, "pushing, pushing, moving, moving". City was repeated at the end as there was no time to rehearse more songs in just 2 or 3 days. Other highlights of the festival for me were The Fall (tight and relentlessly rocking. God bless Mark E Smith) and the Pastels (finally). Grant Hart for me was a bit of a mixed bag, but then again he always was. Robert guesting on 2541 was a personal dream come true. The other acts were good to see/hear too. Though YMG did not really click for me, probably due to the fact that I was not yet interested in popular(and not so popular) music during their initial tenure. Good , but nowhere near exciting. For the statistics: RF Setlist : 1. Rock'N'Roll Friend 2.I've Been Looking For Somebody 3.I Can Do 4.Surfing Magazines 5. He Lives My Life 6.The House That Jack Kerouac Built 7.Here Comes A City 8.In Her Diary 9.Draining The Pool For You 10.People Say 11.From Ghost Town 12.Dear Black Dream 13.The Clarke Sisters Encore: 14. Spring Rain 15. Here Comes A City 1,2,14 : Robert solo 3,4 : with Jherek Bischoff 5 -13, 15: with Jherek Bischoff & String Quartet I'll probalby post some blurry 3rd row handphone pictures elsewhere in the next few days, but not right now Oliver |

Week-end #3 is what a music festival always should be ! Good and rare artists, good audience. Most of all , it was real pleasure to see Robert headlining this event. The guy deserve this kind of recognition. The quartet was fresh, young and brilliant. I don’t know how they managed to arrange with such delicacy all these songs in just two or three days.. Best for me were Draining the pool and Clarke sisters. I’ve loaded some pictures here (cut and paste the whole link) : http://www.flickr.com/photos/34242081@N00/ Waiting for the official videos. |

Thanks for sharing..love that song, saw the 2 boys play the same venue within days of one another years ago hoping one or other would be hanging around for a few days to see just that. Now what's the chances of getting Robert and Guy Clark to share a festival billing to catch Broken Hearted People?! |

I was at both those shows at the Mean Fiddler too Peter. We must have been at a lot of the same shows overs the years in Dublin. |

Have you seen: The Dixons Swinging Swine Subterraneans Honey Thieves Blast from the past Padraig, bet you've seen every one... great bands come and go all the time but only the likes of Hugh Nimmo catch them! The Dixons - Yes, in Tralee. Swinging Swine - In Cork. Subterraneans - Pretty sure I saw them in Dublin. Honey Thieves - Probably saw them in Cork. Have to say that none of the above impressed me all that much though! |
