It's been a Loooong time since I posted here.

But Australian public radio (ABC) have launched a new radio station called DoubleJ.

Throughout May on Sundays, Robert Forster will be hosting their Artists in Residence series, looks like he will be talking about David Bowie:

(This site is busy at the moment, so it might take a little getting through).

That's great news Michael. The station launched today and played Spring Rain as one of its first songs.

I had a listen this afternoon and it was the same old Triple J stuff - unexciting new stuff and more unexciting new stuff.
The new Double J was supposed to have more old stuff. I looked back at the playlist and it only got to about 1981 once in half a day.
The original double J gave you the feeling that you were listening to a alternative universe with a history to match. This is just triple J on digital.
No Byrds
No Smiths
No (early)R.E.M.
etc etc etc.
A total waste of time at this point.
Very disappointed.

Fantastic first show! Robert talks about how the sentence "That was David Bowie performing "Stardust" from The Rise & Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars" spoken by the DJ on the radio was the greatest sentence that Robert had heard in his first 15 years of life. The show is available for the next 7 days at the website above.

Robert talks about bringing "Low G I" muffins to the studio. Sorry for being clueless, but what is "Low G I"? Gluten? Gastrointestinal?

Austin,

Meant nothing to me either, but all is explained here http://www.nhs.uk/chq/Pages/1862.aspx?ca tegoryid=51&subcategoryid=164

I haven't got to the muffins reference, but have decided that my mild dislike of Bowie has now built to a raving hatred (god that voice!), so I might have to quit. Robert and I will have to agree to differ to his importance !

Andrew,

Thanks for clearing up the "GI" mystery. I wonder if this is one of those terms that I will start hearing more often now that I know what it means.

Sorry for your dislike of Bowie! I have a similar issue with Elvis Costello.

Austin,

Yep strange that often happens...we learn a new word or phrase and then it seems to crop up all the time !

I did used to like Bowie (some of his output) and could still listen to Heroes/Low. And I have the same feeling for Costello, used to like him, saw him several times live...partly it's his voice that I no longer like, but partly the approach of "one week I'm a country and western singer, the next I'm scoring string quartets..."

As with Bowie, where is the REAL Elvis Costello ?

Andrew,

My problem with Elvis wasn't really his stylistic shifts, but, well, that voice. It really does a number on me.

I've also got my problems with both Bowie and Costello, but came to like both far better after seeing them live (Costello in an unbilled support slot to Dylan in Dublin's Point Depot, and Bowie in a secret gig at a rehearsal space in Dublin). I've said many times before here that my favourite Bowie album is the first Tin Machine record.
