I'm surprised no one has mentioned Robert's new dates. I've already got my Islington tickets - 1st June!

Hello

I mananaged to buy 2 too many tickets than we need for Robert Forster in Islington. Appreciate that this is a bigger venue than Bush Hall in December, and so might not sell out - so am happy to sell the pair for £32 (inc postage) if anyone if interested?

"Shake off your despondency, and your country girl act.
You are reading me poetry, that's Irish, and so black.
I know you're warm, the warmest person alive,
But are you warm, deep down inside?"

"He's got a relationship with a woman
That he met in an Irish joint."

I can't wait for Saturday night.

Good show last night.

Highlights included 'Cattle and Cane' & a triumphant version of 'Finding You' in spite some early technical issues.

Opened with 'Learn to Burn' and finished with 'Spring Rain'. In between (and in no particular order) he played:

Cattle & Cane
Draining the Pool for You
Head Full of Steam
The House that Jack Kerouac Built
Clouds
Surfing Magazines
Here Comes a City
Finding You
Born to a Family
Darlinghurst Nights
Heart out to Tender
Danger in the Past
I Can Do
Let Me Imagine You
A Poet Walks
I'm So Happy For You

Apologies if I have left anything out.

Whelans was packed to the rafters. Robert was in great form and, to his credit, stayed on long after the show had ended to sign merchandise/pose for photos/chat to fans. I didnt see any tshirts for sale - just vinyl & cds of the new album.

The house that Jack Kerouac built with just Robert & Karin was pretty special among a night of highlights Pat.
He really seemed to enjoy himself and what a great band.
Danger in the past & cattle and Cane were both excellent too.
Hope the rest of the tour is as enjoyable for anyone on here attending.

'Heart out to tender' a highlight of the Whelans show for me. The slinky keyboard, drums and bass version of Danger in the Past a close second. Karin banged her head off the stage lights on a couple of occasions, must have been the heels. The cover star of Songs to Play was also in attendance.

The set list was as follows:
Learn to Burn
I Am So Happy For You
Let Me Imagine You
Surfing Magazines
Head Full of Steam
Born to a Family
Draining the Pool For You
Darling hurst Nights (solo)
Clouds (with Scott & Luke)
Heart Out to Tender
Finding You
I Can Do
A Poet Walks
Here Comes a City

Danger in the Past
Cattle & Cane (solo)
The House That Jack Kerouac Built (with Karin)
Spring Rain

It was great concert except some technical difficulties. My favorite songs were the funky version of Danger in the Past, A Poet's Walks, and the House that Jack Kerouac Built.

I just want to add that Pat was correct about the setlist and my wife was able get some songs on video, which I might post on the YouTube, but I am not very good with technology. Robert also added to the lyrics of "Let Me Imagine You" the words "not yet" after the line "is the memoir is finished".

Fantastic, sold out show in Manchester at a wonderful venue, The Deaf Institute. Robert was in top form, and the band was wonderful. Set list was similar to what was posted for Dublin, with the exception of Too Much of One Thing played instead of Kerouac, the addition of "I Love Myself and I Always Have," and the order of songs changing. (Cattle and Cane was the last song of the last encore, for example.) Some of Robert's comments included how the Pretenders could have done a great version of "Head Full of Steam." He prefaced "I love Myself and I Always Have" with a remark about how some song writers write about the women they love, how they spent time in jail or how they danced all night on drugs, with Robert pointing out that he used different subject matter for that song. Oh, and Danger in the Past brought down the house with Robert in full dance mode.
