Good article. I'm sure we'd all pick a different top 10. I would have at least one, maybe two, from the second phase of the band. |

I'd probably go for something like Cattle and Cane Clouds Bachelor Kisses Finding You Head Full of Steam That Way Apology Accepted Quiet Heart Part Company Rock and Roll Friend I still don't see what people like about Streets of Your Town. I'd put it on a par with Cut It Out. |

Boy, I'd definitely put "Bye, Bye Pride" on any GBs top 10. From Mach II, maybe "The Clock," "Darlinghurst Nights" and "Caroline and I." |

Ooh, I'll have to read that when I'm not tired, but River of Money wouldn't make my top 10! Ever. Though Lee Remick most definitely would. (I once managed to shoehorn a lyric from this into a caption for a magazine I was working on - "She was in The Omen with Gregory Peck, she got killed, what the heck" Genius!) That Way would also be there, of course. |

I knew I'd missed something. I'd have Bye, Bye Pride maybe instead of Rock and Roll Friend. I like a lot of what they recorded post reformation but only Finding You was amongst their very best. |

I remember requesting "River of Money" when I saw them in LA in 2005. But I was just being a smart-ass. I do actually think Grant's prose on "River" is pretty evocative. "Lee Remick" would not be on any list for me. It does make me happy to see new articles reaching back to the Go-Betweens. |

Randy, I actually saw them play "River of Money" in '84 (?). They were supporting Aztec Camera in Edinburgh and I remember distinctly that song. The other one was "I Need Two Heads" because a friend that I had gone with (who didn't know the group at all) said that it sounded constantly on the verge of collapse ! |

I should add that I really like the song. But it is not a choice that I would make if I was picking a top 10 for a newcomer to the group ! |

I quite like that list as a pre reunion one. It wouldn't be my list necessarily but its considered, well reasoned - certainly not obvious and it seems to tap into what made them so special all those years ago. I always liked River of Money fwiw and never quite got the widespread hostility to it. I also saw them do it live (in Liverpool on the same Aztec Camera tour) |

I certainly wouldn't put "River of Money" in the same class as "Cut It Out." Doing it live might be challenging because the audience must be able to hear the words or else it's dead. Most live sound systems are incapable of delivering that clarity unless you're in a mega fancy place like the Hollywood Bowl. Andrew I can imagine "I Need Two Heads" being a bit challenging to pull off without a lot of practice. I am forever sorry I didn't discover this group during their original run. It would have been such a great thing to see them with Lindy Morrison and Robert Vickers. |

River of Money - I encountered it live twice: London 1984 and Stockholm 1985. I thought that it worked fine. Lindy threatened to hit Robert in the head with the drumsticks in Sthlm because he got carried away while playing the solos and looked like he would smash the electric guitar (and there was no spare). - I think that it was an interesting experiment, The Gift 1984. |
