  I was listening to the first track Karen and I heard some crack sound (sounds like noise from playing an old vinyl), was it the problem of my cd? Did anyone experience it? Thank you! |

  It's a needle drop recording of the vinyl. The master tape could not be found. |

  Thank you for your reply : )  I have compared it with another Karen from the Quiet Heart The Best of CD and they sounded different to me. Did they actually come from the same source? |

  I think they did a better needle drop recording, or found another copy of the vinyl in better shape. |

  On a non-unconnected note, Cattle and Cane suffered from some drop-outs on the 1996/2002 Before Hollywood CDs. It's particularly noticeable - not to mention, annoying - when  listening on headphones.     The issue doesn't occur on the 'Quiet Heart' compilation.     I haven't checked if this is also an issue on any of the vinyl copies at my disposal(7", Original Rough Trade release of Before Hollywood, 1978-1990 vinyl) but I will try to get around to it to confirm.    Regarding Karen, both 1978-1990 and The Able Lable Singles highlighted the fact that a needle drop was used.     My memory is less clear regarding any caveats on the '78 til '79 release. Again, I will check and report back. |
