Very diplomatically said, Padraig. I couldn't agree more. The best part of his article is this: "I grieve the loss of Grant McLennan more than I grieve the loss of David Bowie or Prince, because it’s in his music that I hear everything I love about Australia. It's a better than random ranking. However, I'd say SMaL is easily the worst of the 9 The post-reformation albums are 6, 7 & 8 There's not much between the other 5 but 16LL and Tallulah are the ones I like least I'd probably go 9 SMaL 8 FoRW 7 BY, BO 6 OA 5 Tallulah 4 16LL 3 SHF 2 BH 1 LB&tBDE | ||

It's hard for me to rank, but I think I hold "Oceans Apart" in higher regard than most others would be inclined to. It's one of my favorites. | ||

The songs on Oceans Apart are great, but the truly awful production has put me off playing it for years. If ever an album needed remastering, this is it. Nice to have you back, Guy, by the way. | ||

I don't mind the production on Ocean's Apart, but the heavily-compressed mastering was a disaster. The second issue on Lo-Max really didn't help matters much. I did a -6.0dB + "Audio Restoration" project on SoundForge to at least lower the volume to a reasonable level. But you can't put back what was sonically crushed. When that third career retrospective box set comes out, all will be well in the world. |
