Yes, just call me 'the machine'. Jonathan has just posted a new 'Your Turn, My Turn' tab in the guitar tab links. Again, this one includes the bassline. |

Slow down, Pete; you're going to hurt yourself. |

I already did (my back), thus I was confined to the house and had nothing much else to do. How did you go with 'Surfing Magazines', John? Have you been printing off any other of my tabs? It'd be nice to know they aren't completely in vain, though I think they are generally a nice addition to any band website. Any requests? |

It may not be that Jon. He normally posts under jonathan and signs his posts accordingly. I think there may be another John who is struggling to keep up with you. Requests? Ok, I'll through down the Gauntlet. Who can be the first to come up with the correct tab for the guitar solo from Streets. |

I'm not struggling to keep up; I'm not even running the race. Pete, I played the intro to Surfing Magazines and then suddenly lost interest in the entire concept of playing guitar. I haven't played anything in ages. It's one of those fallow periods. I'll try to pick up my guitar again in a few weeks and learn from some more of your very detailed tabs. |

Sorry to hear that, John. Hope my tab wasn't responsible for putting you off. I'm often in one of those fallow periods with the guitar myself, but for me it is usually the struggle in coming up with anything interesting to play. Doing these tabs takes me away from my songwriting grapples, making me remember what it was like to be thirteen and working out some of my favourite licks and songs again. I will say one thing against tabs: while it is good for beginners to get their bearings from them on the fret board and learn certain chords and runs, be careful of your sense of timing. I played guitar for years, teaching myself from guitar tabs until one day it dawned upon me that I had an appalling sense or rhythm. That is the reason why I write those annoying "1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +" things at the bottom of each bar. I suggest playing a long very slowly whilst tapping out the rhythm with your foot or something. Personally, I find metronomes a bit distracting. BTW, Mark, I accept your challenge. |

Go for it Pete. I'm really not in a position to judge how correct the tabs are. I suggested to Willsteed some time ago that he put down some tabs for us, but so far nothing. I thought that it might be he that replied to you, but apparently it was just a product of my own wishful thinking. |

Come on Mark, how could there be a case of mistaken identity when I post under a name as rare as "John"? Pete, it wasn't your tab that put me off playing. It's just that I don't have the patience or perseverance to learn complete songs. I usually manage to work out a rough version of the main riff and then lose interest. Occasionally (such as now), I lose interest in guitar altogether and wonder why I bother at all. I agree that one of the main defects of tab is the lack of indication of timing. I think it's excellent that you have included timing in your tabs. |

Frankly, Mark, I don't seriously think Mr. Wilsteed would bother having anything to do with something as trivial and time consuming as guitar tabs. Especially when he doesn't really like the band and he doesn't even remember what he played on the 'Streets' solo, judging from his posts here in the chat room. In fact, I imagine him to be so shit hot that he improvised most of what he played on 16LL. Thanks for the encouragment, John. Mark, I'll be about a week with that tab as I'm just finihing off a tab for 'That Way'. They don't take me that long to do, maybe a few hours if they're easy enough (and most Go-Bs songs are) but I must maintain my enigmatic aura by going into hibernation every once in a while. Besides, I might hurt myself. |
