Thanxs Pete for the tab,but I find it hard to play it listening to the record. There some trick in their guitar expecially in the beginning,I'm not sure they are using the standard tuning.Or maybe there are two guitars playing different chords.Let me know what you think about it. Thanks Alan | ||

Thanks for the feedback Alan. I'll have another listen but I've seen them play it live and they definetly don't use a different tuning then, just a capo at the third fret. It is a very strange, jangly, sounding guitar that either has some chorus/flange effect on it or is maybe double tracked, so maybe the second guitar does play a lower voicing of the chords. Rest assured, though, that Grant does play the intro I transcribed. Do the timings of the strums and mutes make sense - you couldn't really play them along with the record until you've tackled them at a slower pace I think. Another thing Robert and Grant do when playing this song live, and there's a little bit of it on the recording, is occassionally hit the open A string (C note with capo on) which isn't in the scale and sounds terrible. I did not transcribe this as it seems accidental to me and, as I said, sounds terrible. Anyhow, I will have another listen. Maybe others may have an idea what's going on too. | ||

Well, I listened to it and, if you meant the intro at the very start, I don't think there is anything weird about this. When the band comes in it is hard to make out precisely what the other guitar is doing as it is awash with a thick wall of reverb. At times it sounds like there's five rhythm guitars playing slightly different things, though to my ears all things revolve around the same notes of those opening guitar chords. I don't know Alan, and I feel bad for appearing stubborn (I also disagreed with Michael on a section of my 'Spring Rain' tab) but I think it's a fairly accurate tab. The dream situation for me, or any music transcriber, would be to have access to the multi-track tapes and be able to single out a particular instrument. This ain't gonna happen so I have to rely on my brain to fill in the blanks, unfortunately. |
