Does anyone got a tab for this one?
Cattle and Cane, or maybe Quiet Heart.

Cattle and Cane - I've been trying to get Pete the tabmeister on to it but have a version of my own. It is a very unusual song. Main thing is the rythym, nevertheless I will post my effort when I can. Try playing an Fmaj7 chord with finger also on the 3rd fret of the A string (open chords) and pluck G string then A, then D strings for the first notes in the main part of the song. If you strum this chord then the rest will come to you.

Hi Michael. Sorry it's taken me so long but I've started work on that Cattle and Cane tab. Looks like you have your own worked out though! I've finished transcribing the acoustic guitar part but I've got the bass and the electric to go. Maybe we can get Jonathan to post alternate tabs up in the links.

Yes, the rhythm is very complicated. I hear it as typically being a bar of 6/4, then 5/4 but this is never constant (the "Memory wastes" bit is mainly 4/4, then 5/4 again before leading back into the main riff). It's an odd arrangement for the bass is the main thing making the melodic changes, otherwise the guitar doesn't really change much, except for strumming patterns (which I'm meticulously trying to transcribe).

Kalle-

Quiet Heart is pretty simple if you want to just play the song without doing a Pete-A note-for-note reworking (nothing wrong with that!). Check the link below. It looks pretty good, although I prefer playing with a capo at the 2nd fret using a root-C shape. It's always best to find your own key! There's also a few other G-Bs songs including Cattle & Cane on the Oztabs site.

It's a great song (no shit!) and I 've played it loads of times in acoustic solo sets - the punters love it, even if they've never heard it before!

Have fun and break a few hearts.

Basil

Basil, I looked at the cattle and cane tab, the melody and timing are good, but I don't like the chord labels. Is it really are straight D major chord, if it is transcribed to D. It sounds like the correct key is F on the record. Robert plays weird chords, I think up around the 8th fret, the bottom three strings (i.e 8th fret E and A strings, and 7th fret D string, like an E chord shape). Will will await the Azzopardi brilliance, he's working on it still I hope.

Hi Michael. I gave up on the song after I lost all the work I did on it a couple of times. Those chords Robert plays up the neck I found hard to make out. I might give it another try soon since you asked. . .

Yup, Cattle & Cane sounds like it's played with a load of improvised chords that don't appear in 'the guitar case chordbook'! Going on a hunch here, and seeing as how Robert F likes his country tunes, try a Dylanesque capo at the 4th fret....

I've been working on this one from the Acoustic Stories DVD. Tell me what you think...

The chords are noted below by Roman Numerals:

I II III or IV
e|----------------3------|
B|----------------3------|
G|-----------------------|
D|--4------3-------------|
A|--5--5----------2------|
E|--5--7---5------3------|

It starts with this pattern
Chord I
D—4---------
A------5----
E----5------

Then the riff goes II - I - II with strumming mainly on the E A D strings but let the others ring open.

Then for the "From time to time waste..."
They play the riff II - I - III.

Robert plays chord IV instead of III to add emphasis.

I think this is what they are playing but would like others input before I ask Jonathan to post it.

It certainly is a strange song! Does any other band/artist play it? It would be difficult with that time signature, which is sort of 11/4! Notable that no-one at the Grant Tribute concert dared give it a go, even though it's a song that typifies his genius.

Spence, any corrections to what I posted or is it the way you play it?

Matthias, looks ok to me, only I'm not that clever at knowing what chords or notes I am playing, i nver had guitar lessons, just play by ear, which has its downside!
