(Now that I am getting the hang of barre chords it is wonderful to strum this one.)

LOVE IS A SIGN

D------------------F#m
I'm ten feet under water,

G--------D---G----------D
Standing in a sunken canoe,

D------------------F#m
Looking up at the waterlilies --

G---------D--------G------D
They're green and violet blue.

F#m-----C#m---F#maj
Still the sun it finds

F#m---C#m-----F#maj
A place to light me.

F#m----C#m----F#maj
Still the sun it finds

F#m----C#m----F#maj
That it's warm beside me.

F#m----A----G
Green and violet blue....

-----E m
No matter what you say,
No matter what you do,
I want to be the one, and love is a

D----- C -----G----D----C----G (D)
Sign.

(The next verses would start the chord progression just like the first.)

Thanks, Elizabeth--that's one I always wanted to play but I'm not much good at figuring out songs by ear. It's such a gorgeous song; musically one of the most elegant in their catalog.

You are quite welcome, Kurt. It's my pleasure to figure these things out. Elegant is a particularly apt word to describe 'Love is a Sign.'

Ah, what of 'Your Turn, My Turn' sometime, and its angular grace?

An update from the 'Striped Sunlight Test Kitchens' - Here is a correction on the chord progression, because I realized something this morning based on the harmonica passage starting on the fifth of a chord built on the second fret.

B m-----F#m---B maj
Still the sun it finds

B m---F#m-----B maj
A place to light me.

B m----F#m----B maj
Still the sun it finds

B m----F#m----B maj
That it's warm beside me.

B m----A----G
Green and violet blue....

My apologies to anyone that has dived in already and wondered why the weird into another key from outer space. The chords I use are shaped like Am, Em, A maj built on that second fret.

Thanks Elizabeth for that!
You've got a good ear and I've enjoyed playing this one. Another Forster classic!
For anyone else who is interested in playing this song on the guitar, as Elizabeth has alluded to in her final posting it can be played in the key of C with chord shapes Am Em & A (in the chorus), and as most of you would know, if you put a capo on the 2nd fret then it would be in key of D.
I think it sounds OK in C but the intro sounds better in D (that is my basic intro of alternating with the 9th).
I'm gonna paste the whole song below, it looks a bit messy in this window so you'll have to space the chords out to match the words. Enjoy!!
