My daughter and I went to see the Melbourne Heart vs Adelaide United game the other day. First time in AAMI Park for me. Great stadium, great game and great atmosphere! I'll be back next time I'm in Melbourne hopefully.

Well things seem to be up, up, up at QPR. Even though I now feel more detached from the club than ever. If we're relegated I might start going again.

Other good news: John Terry to be stripped of the England captaincy. He will still be available for selection, though. What a strange system of justice we have. Meanwhile it's Anton Ferdinand who is getting death threats.

Not heard that one, but heard today that Rangers have signed a lucrative new TV deal to show all their matches. It's with The History Channel.

Good article Padraig. I wonder if it was by the Scottish journalist Graham Hunter, who is now based in Spain?
Very well placed sources predicting liquidation on Tuesday afternoon. Then the fun will really start!!

Saw Sydney vs Newcastle last weekend. Best football game I've been at in a long time. Sydney had to win to make the finals over Newcastle. The Novocastrians just needed a draw. Sydney were 3-1 up with minutes to go. Then Newcastle pulled one back. The fourth official somehow conjured up five minutes of added time. But Sydney somehow held on and lived to fight another day. You couldn't write drama like this. The beautiful game triumphs again.

A bit of a long shot - I'm heading to Gdansk in a campervan for the Ireland v Spain game on June 14th with a few friends and we're short one ticket. They're thin on the ground but I do have a ticket for the Ireland - Croatia game to trade. I've posted lots of places to no avail yet so if anyone has soccer contacts or any Irish board members knows of a spare one then please send us a message...don't want to have to draw straws!

I'm a wee bit pissed off! It seems the FA's answer to handshaking/racist allegation problems at Chelscum is to propose a guard of honour from QPR's players at Stamford Bridge. These people have no idea at all what rivalry/sporting endeavour means.

Jerry -
I agree it was a ridiculous idea - they should have proposed a guard of honour as Chelsea's players left the pitch at the end of the game eh! (ducks for cover)

I got sorted for my final ticket as referenced above, we've also put a Euro 2012 song together as RiverGdansk - "I'm Gonna Drive", based on the Old Gloria Gaynor classic, I'll stick a link to the video up here when it's ready.

After living through the hell of the 90's as a Celtic supporter, when Rangers were winning everything in sight,I never in my wildest dreams thought that this would happen.

Having been too busy to check the non-Euro 2012 football news of late, it's only in the past couple of days I've seen just how far Rangers have fallen (down a division - if they still exist at all). Very sad. :-)

Peter, how was Euro 2012?

Padraig, some people seriously doubt whether Sevco (aka "Rangers", so called because they don't even have a new name yet)will even be playing football this season. And even if they do the anger against them is so strong that that they will be lucky to fall down just one division, it will more likely be all the way to the bottom- eg Division 3. All their big name players have either left in the last few days, or are in the process of leaving. In their next game their team will be made up of kids or journeymen.
Even the most rabid Celtic fan given a blank page could not have scripted how far they have fallen.

Bizarre goings on in Scotland, wonder if this could ever happen in the Sunny SPL of La Liga where false economy of the big two thrives while the rest of the teams struggle, can never see it happening.

Padraig, we had a great trip to Poland despite the results, given the two teams competing in the final warped logic would suggest we were the 4th best team there but we just couldn't get out of the group :-)
It was a privilege to see the greatest national side of our generation in the flesh, the control, speed, technique, vision, passing was something else.... Spain weren't bad either!
The Polish put on a great show and were very welcoming, especially to the Irish given the huge links in recent years, it was well worth the 3k mile round trip and I've already booked the ferry to Rio in the hope that Trapp will take us there.
The squad had a good laugh at the video when it made it to them and we had over 10k hits despite the late release...

Kevin, the correct decision in my humble opinion. I have still to be convinced that the club has a future under the stewardship of Charles Green and his consortium. It will be interesting to see what happens if the players in question win their case in respect of their contracts being transferred to the Newco.

The handling of the matter by the SFA/SPL has left a lot to be desired and perhaps it is time for Doncaster and Regan to go.

Agreed Hugh, these two are inept.
While "Rangers" have been voted into Div 3 they still have to prove they can function as a football team yet. There are strong rumours that there is no real funding in place, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the newco go into administration!

Everything I have read certainly suggests that there is no real funding in place and I have to admit that I fully expect the Newco to fail if the players win their case.

I believe the Chairmen of some of the SFL Clubs questioned why they should vote at all given that they have yet to see a business plan, list of directors, details of ownership and capital adequacy for the Newco.

The fact that there is so much secrecy surrounding the Newco is ominous.

I can't believe the utter arrogance of most of the Rangers fans. You'd think the humiliation of seeing their corrupt team liquidated would have knocked that out of them, but no, their sense of superiority and entitlement has grown! It's quite astonishing. Let's see how many of them show up to exciting home games against Elgin City and Annan.

At least away games to Stranraer will be easier for their Northern Ireland fan base to get to straight off the ferry (not that they'll actually go).

I'm looking forward to the division three Glasgow derby between Newco and Queen's Park (the New Old Firm?) on October 20. Come on the Spiders!

I'm watching Rangers, The Men Who Sold The Jerseys right now. It's at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOuboxnJt yQ This is astonishing stuff. I had no idea that Graeme Souness was named in it. If this is all true Rangers should be stripped of everything they won in that 10 year period. What cheats.

There is volumes of information at this blog below.

The guy is winding down now but he has become a cause celebre for all fair minded Scottish football fans, not just Celtic fans with a vested interest. His blog won a prestigious George Orwell prize this year.

I went to the Sydney derby last weekend (Sydney FC vs new boys Western Sydney Wanderers). It was a great atmosphere, even if Sydney FC were beaten 0-2. A great rivalry is born (well, it was already born in their previous derby at Wanderers stadium, but I wasn't at that one!)

Kevin, are you and other Celtic fans missing the derby games with Rangers?

I probably miss their presence in the league as opposed to actually playing them. If they were in the league it would give an extra edge to the games that Celtic play against other teams, that fear of getting beaten would be more intense. As it is just now Celtic are on top of the league without having had to extend themselves, they will probably win it by 20 or 30 points at the end. I think the Celtic fans are probably split 50/50 on this subject.

Whilst not condoning what Hazard did in any way, there's a bit more to this than meets the eye. The ballboy, aged 17, is the Swansea chairman's son and tweeted before the game that he was going to waste as much time as possible. I despair sometimes....

The ball boy showed enormous potential to be a professional footballer by his ridiculous rolling around in agony overreaction in order to engender a response from the referee and crowd .The whole incident was a microcosm of everything that is wrong with football. The player's actions inexcusable too
