I'm VERY happy!
Mark Gardener is touring with a proper band this time and playing (I would have to assume half of) Going Blank Again. Also on the bill are the Underground Lovers (Hugh...!!!) and Sky Parade. Tickets go on sale tomorrow but I'm there already!

If ever a band never lived up to the hype, and to be fair, its early promise its Ride. Why would he only play half of an album, or am I missing something?

"To celebrate the 20th anniversary of Ride's seminal shoegaze masterpiece Going Blank Again, Principal Entertainment are proud to present Mark Gardener with full band performing classic Ride hits - including tracks from that most incendiary of '90s guitar albums - alongside instrumentals he composed and performed for the 2011 Mojo and NME award winning Upside Down documentary, plus recent solo and collaboration work and new material to be released later in the year." From http://events.themusicnetwork.com/2012/m ark-gardener-friends/sydney

I saw Ride in their heyday in 1991. Great show. Come to think of it, I also saw them in Sydney in 1992 but can barely remember that. The 1991 gig was in Tipperary. (Yes, it is a long way to Tipperary from Sydney).

A lot of people seemed to think that Ride got worse with every album.

I, just about, disagree. (who me??)

I prefer "Going Blank Again" to "Nowhere" (sacrilege I know) and think that actually "Carnival of Light" is brilliant if not better again, bar 1 song - the cover.

O.K. Tarantula has some clangers but that was all Andy Bell and we ALL know where he ended up!

I saw them in 91 at the Paddington RSL, not really a fan but interested enough by all the hype. They totally blew me away - especially the 3 minutes of chaotic noise in the middle of Drive Blind. When they came out of that back into the song it was like "Whooooaaaaaah!".
I was converted.

Saw them for the Going Blank Again Tour in 92(?)at the Enmore from the front row of the mezzanine - another stellar show.

Saw Mark Gardener at the Annandale in 2004(?) - rather nice too.

A LOT of their B sides are as good, if not better than the songs on the albums too.
e.g. Stampede, Going Blank Again, At the end of the Universe, Don't let it die etc and are worth hunting down.

Oh, and only half an album because he only sang half of it...probably the best half: Leave them all behind, Twisterella, Mouse trap, Time Machine and OX4.

Geoff, I believe it is the original Underground Lovers lineup so you could be in for a treat. They got back together in 2009 and I gather there is a new album planned for this year.
