tip of the hat to Padraig on The Soundtrack of Our Lives, that album is super hooky, oddly enough they didnt play a single song from that album at their monstrously good farewell show at Heaven in London last week

Soho - Goddess. The sound is pretty dated now (it sounded ahead of its time in 1991 though), but there are still some great tunes on it.

Steve Earle & The Dukes - The Hard Way. I came across the cassette while looking for something else. I remember buying it - a promo copy - for two or three dollars in a record shop in Kenmore Square, Boston in the summer of 1990. I was amazed to find it so cheap when it had only just been released. It is more than a decade, probably even more than 15 years, since I last played it, but I must have played it a lot back in the day as I remembered every chord change. Overall it's not quite as good as I'd remembered, but there are still some very strong songs on it, including the brilliant Billy Austin.

I wonder if that record shop is still there? It still was when I was last in Boston in 2000, but I somehow doubt it is now.

Matthew Sweet - Bold Moves, a very rare track from a Bucketfull Of Brains compilation. Divine Intervention is on now.

I'm now listening to a pretty amazing BBC session version of Blue Monday from 1984.
