Joe Brown – That’s the way it goes

The concert for George must have been Joe’s biggest gig for years, but the old pro takes it in his stride with this version of a pretty good tune from Harrison’s Gone troppo solo album. I was a dead ringer for Joe as a kid but, on the strength of this DVD, am now a Clapton doppelganger. The whole concert is a moving experience, with Dhani Harrison an amazing double for his youthful dad.

Only one choice possible...

Elvis Costello - Tramp the Dirt Down

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Znn5a-88 tY

It's not in my nature to celebrate the death of a human being, but I detest everything about what Thatcher did to Britain. And she had the temerity to try out the hated Poll Tax in Scotland a year before the rest of the UK.

The Jazz Butcher - Sixteen Years http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CCqIxyYrp YY

Lyrics by Pat Fish (aka The Jazz Butcher):
Privatised hospitals
Privatised water
Privatised electric
Privatised gas
Privatised buses
Privatised railways
Privatised garbage
Privatised jails
I hate you
I hate you
I hate you
I hate you

I hate you
I hate you
I hate you
I hate you

Privatised pensions
Privatised airports
Privatised dentists
Privatised coal
Privatised ferries
Privatised housing
Privatised telephones
Privatised nuclear power

I hate you
I hate you
I hate you
I hate you

I hate you
I hate you
I hate you
I hate you

Privatised businesses have shareholders
who expect to make personal gain
from their stake in essential public services
infested with junior-rat management...
and people wonder where
all the fucking money's gone.

I hate you
I hate you
I hate you
I hate you

I hate you
I hate you
I hate you
I hate you

(liars)
(cowards)
(fools)
(a word which the board bans. Clue, it rhymes with bankers)

Frightened rabbits – Acts of man

This is a majestic opening track, a rolling piano figure introducing an epic mix of Big Country pomp and Smithsean melancholy, with pleasantly acerbic lyrics. On a first listen though, the rest of the album doesn’t seem to match up.

Cosmo, I like what I have heard by the band but I cannot bring myself to pay US$80.00 plus shipping plus Duty and VAT for the album. :-)

Perhaps someone will re-release it.

The Apartments - World of Liars

Got my "Seven Songs" vinyl today, nice versions and a lovely object with heartfelt sleevenotes by Peter Milton Walsh.

As someone who has not bought much vinyl in the last few years (and to save you looking like an idiot to the record company!) inside the record cover there is a small slip of paper with the details for downloading the digital versions (FLAC and not the advertised MP3s). This is probably standard procedure ?

Hi Andrew,

through the last months and years I more and more buy the vinyl version. In many times the prices don't differ that much or the vinyl version is something special.
Very often you get a download link for the album and extras or ever get the added cd.

Just bought
< Kurt Vile - Wakin' On A Pretty Daze 2LP blue vinyl deluxe with a different cover that you build on your own
< Wire - Changes beome us 2LP - numbered version 2212/3000 for rsd 2013
< Courteeners - Anna - signed by the whole band
< Edwyn Collins - Understated - signed by the man himself
< Neil Young - Psychedelic Pill 3LP - specially mastered for vinyl
< Low - The Invinsible Way - Sub Pop Loser Edition (nice name) very limited first run in blue vinyl incl. mp3 download
< PIL - This Is 2LP - signed by Johnny Rotten !!!
--- this is the only vinyl mentioned here without cd or download
--- many, many more
