Padraig, I've noticed your Scientists entries. I picked up the Cherry Red release which includes 8 live tracks. This is one of the relatively rare cases where the live tracks are very important because some of the songs are seriously great and not included among the studio tracks. I'm referring particularly to "Perpetual Motion", "Tiger Tiger", and "When Worlds Collide."

Wow, that's a lot of tracks if the eight live songs are on top of the 15 studio tracks on the version I have. Does it all fit on one disc or is it a two disc set?

There are 21 tracks Padraig. It seems you have two that I do not.

Randy, the album that Padraig has ( Blood Red River 1982 - 1984 ) drops Fire Escape so it actually has three tracks which do not appear on Swampland ( We Had Love; Clear Spot; Demolition Derby.)

I wasn't aware until right now that the version I have doesn't run the six tracks of the Blood Red River EP in their original order! Oh well, I can program it to play in the original order.

Well spotted Hugh, by the way.

Atlas Genius - Trojans. The video seems to want to look like America, but most of it looks like it was shot round the corner from where I live, particularly the long, stone stairs. Given that they're Australian, this may well be the case. http://www.moshtix.com.au/v2/event/atlas -genius-with-special-guests-glass-towers -and-gang-of-youths/65970?&ref=mguide-fe vent&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=em ail&utm_content=fevent&utm_campaign=mgui de

Kozelek/Lavalle - Somehow the wonder of life prevails

Ah, finally, a song, from Uncut's latest, I want to play again and again, pitching MK's bleak drawl against a sweet simple limpid electronic three-note tune... haven't focused on the words yet, perhaps a tale of an old high school buddy's death, a meandering meditation on the usual stuff, but on the whole, haunting and addictive.

Cosmo, A vastly underrated band in my humble opinion. None of their albums were classics but when they got their song choice right they were amazing ( Enter The Young; Along Comes Mary; Cherish; Windy; Never My Love; Everything That Touches You; P.F. Sloan; The Time It Is Today; Requiem For The Masses; Six Man Band.)

The Association - Cherish

First aid kit - To a poet

Lion's Roar was instantly comandeered by the wife for the car, so I'd almost forgotten I had this, till it poured out ravishingly from her I-pod this morning - what a glorious sound they make. The Kozelek/Lavalle track continues to get repeated daily plays, at least until the CD arrives.

Cosmo, Jackie Trent was one-half the songwriting team that produced most of Petula Clark's big 60s hits. She was a great interpreter herself but her voice was too "busty" for the aesthetics of the 60s. Check out her reworks of old chestnuts "Time and Time" and Edith Piaf's "If You Love Me (Really Love Me)," with castanets!

T Rex -- Rip Off

I'm not as bad as Padraig but I do have too many records. The iPod tossed this up and I thought "gee, this singer owes a lot to Marc Bolan." I assumed it was somebody much more recent given the arty dissonance of the backing. Then the middle 8 came and it was clearly actually T Rex! This stands out from the run of the mill of the era as much as the great VU or Stooges did. The best T Rex I've ever heard. Brilliant.

Salome Leclerc - Volcan

This appeared out of I-pod busyness like a clear white shell alone on a beach: the relative overall minimalism of the songs on Sous les Arbres tends to detract a little from their beauty, so heard out of setting like this the track really popped and cracked, with her rough-edged gentle voice and some chiming Yann Pechin like guitar. Which took me back to the whole album, and it really is lovely. Highly recommended.

Padraig, Don't go home without a copy of 'Me Want Me Get Me Have Me Need Me Love' by the Bird Nest Roys.

As far as I know, it collects together everything the band recorded for Flying Nun between 1985 and 1987 ( 18 tracks.)
