The Beloved - A hundred words

Dusting off some TDK D90s from 1987 or thereabouts, and I have to say they sound pretty darn good.

It's amazing how mix tapes made 25 years ago still work, while many CDRs made five years ago don't. Analogue rules.

Under the sun
Eventually fading into night

Jae Laffer - When The Iron Glows Red. The title track is the last song, which is unusual. It's maybe the most Panics-like track on the album.

Giant Sand - Artists

I think the only song I have from this band, and what an irresistably great one it is. Classic, snappy little riff and drawled sardonic lyric with final guitar wigout make this a sort of perfect template for my ideal song.

Don Costa - Charley
funky as f**k - from the soundtrack of The Soul of Nigger Charley, this track is on the thoroughly excellent and practically perfect Soul Jazz label compilation Can You Dig It? - the Music and Politics of Black Action Films

Alberto Griso - E Nun ce vojo stŕ

This was the song playing in the taxi as I arrived in Rome: bloody hell, what a voice, I thought! Turns out to be from the soundtrack of an Italian 70s cop film, the kind of thing Tarantino probably loves, and as far as I can find out about the only thing the singer ever recorded, which seems ridiculous.

Agnes Obel - The Curse

Chamber pop a-go-go ? This Danish singer-songwriter has just released her second album ('Aventine').

There is an excellent 'Berlin Live Session' version of this song here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1wgaFJ0 750

Morricone/Elisa - Ancora qui

This stirring ballad from Quentin's Django just about holds its own with the other stuff on the soundtrack he's fished from older sources, but I think it would benefit from being sung by a darker female, or a male, voice.

This band was known for their funny pop tunes in the eighties. After that they have recorded more interesting things like the mobilis album. They have worked with Colin Moulding(XTC)and disapeared circa 2000. I think their first career , if successful, has wrongly diverted people like from their music.

Hi Pádraig and TROU

No, I've never heard of them. French wikipedia seems to suggest that the release that you mention, 'Mobilis in mobile' does represent a major change in the sound of the group. More melancholic apparently. As someone whose record collection consists only of sad and/or depressing music, maybe I'll check that one out !

Love Spit Love - Fall On Tears. Close to pop/rock perfection from Richard Butler of The Psychedelic Furs.

Never heard of this. As a Psychedelic Furs fan, and I've added the two records to my basket.

Serge Gainsbourg - Initials BB

The exhilarating opening and title track from one of his freshest mid-period albums - BB was obviously as inspiring as JB was to be later on. Great brass arrangement.
