Wow, big shock. I haven't been keeping up on Lou Reed (since I'm really just a VU fan) so I didn't know he had a liver transplant. Not sure I even knew that he'd been sober since the 1980s, though I'm glad he has.

I'm playing Rock 'n' Roll Animal right now. It was the first Lou Reed album I ever owned. A friend bought it (and Elvis Costello's King Of America) for me to say sorry for not being in touch. That was more than a quarter century ago and is still one of the best presents I ever got.

I guess heroin is hard on the human liver. Liver cancer claimed both John Coltrane and Lou years after they licked.

I meant kicked. Coltrane was 10 years removed from heroin when he died of liver cancer.

Hooked a Sonos Play 5 up to my old Hi-Fi stereo components as I left my speakers behind when I moved house earlier this year...streaming can wait, christened it with Lou's "Transformer" on vinyl...sounded better than I've ever heard it which is probably why I left the last set on the wall!

I must dig out Lou's "Stiff On His Legend" - Live in Sweden 1974 cassette for a blast - has a great version of "Oh Jim" on it.

Saw Lou backed by Whipping Boy in the 90s and again at a Leonard Cohen tribute concert in the same venue, Dublin's Point Theatre, where he tore up The Stranger Song

I was at that show in the Point Peter. I thought Whipping Boy blew him away!
