Good Vibrations. It came out elsewhere in the world last year, but is coming out in Australia this week. I saw a preview of it last week. It's fantastic, up there with 24 Hour Party People as one of the greatest films ever made about pop music. Making a film set in Belfast in the late 1970s-early 1980s a feel good film takes some doing, but they've managed it. The scenes with The Undertones are in turn hilarious and beautifully poignant. Do not miss this. | ||

I confess I have no clue what you all are on about, other than that it is somehow associated with the World Cup games. If you're contemplating spending time in the homelands of some of the leading teams, Stuart I can recommend Argentina. They know how to turn every part of an animal into yummy goodness, have better cheeses than people realize and their wines are coming up (though still too boozy for my taste). Buenos Aires has some great art museums. If you're the hardy adventurer/explorer type--I am instead a classic cheese-eating book-reading pinkie finger snob--there's southern Patagonia. And the people? Well, their Argentines, 'nuff said. | ||

It looks like it could be 2016 before we get to see Season 3. They commence filming in September, 2014, with an expected air date in Scandinavia starting in the Fall 2015. Check out Spiral ( French Police / Legal Drama ) if you have not already done so. It is a decent show. Series 5 is being filmed at the moment. | ||

A third Scotsman to recommend Spiral. Less amazingly complex than the Bridge but with a similar ability to ground the stories with a group of believable, intriguing characters. Here, the profoundly exhausted, slyly ironic, workaholic investigating magistrate is my favourite. Paris fuzz, one notes, much more inclined to slap folk around than their Nordic counterparts. And you don't even get a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower until, I think, season 4. | ||

I didn't notice either, but I'm from the other end of the island. I was just impressed at how like the real Undertones they looked. Just watched Young Adult on TV. It's very good. Long time since I last watched a movie on TV. Australian commercial channels have so many ads it generally makes the process unbearable, but Young Adult is not a long film, so even with all the ads it was over in two hours. | ||

What I haven't been watching much of this year is F1 racing. They have a new engine package rule this year, only V6 engines with turbos. They sound bloody awful. F1 racing is so much about the screaming engines at high rev's, now with the new engines all that is gone. | ||
