Usually somebody else posts these RIP's but I guess I have to do this one.

As far as I'm concerned, Cream was a pustule on the 1960s music scene. But some of their shorter tracks such as "I Feel Free" were great. The less said about "Sunshine of Your Love" the better. They introduced an aesthetic that favored sheer instrumental chops way far over songs and what I'd call "substance." They were the absolute antithesis to the Go-Betweens. But at least Jack Bruce was, in fact, a pretty good songwriter. Besides the usual suspects mentioned in all the obits, he also backed the uber-obscure and supremely gifted Duffy Power for a handful of his mid-60s recordings. Bruce played old-fashioned double bass for those, natch.

After leaving Cream, Bruce could focus on his songs rather than the meandering instrumental showmanship dictated by the "supergroup." If he never wrote another, this song would assure his place in the musical pantheon:

Talking about Cream I have to say that I can not say that they are one of my favourite groups, nevertheless I can't get 'White Room' out of my head since I bought a cream Compilation LP in the seventies and I find myself whistling and sing-a-long this song very, very often.

I'm generally not a fan of power trio's. Some of the albums though from the 1960's and 70's were okay. Henrix, Cream and into the 1970's with Robin Trower.

Post Cream song "Theme.." is my favorite Jack song as well. Jack and poet Pete Brown wrote White Room. Together, Brown and Bruce wrote a number of other Cream's songs, including the hits "I Feel Free", "SWLABR" and (with Clapton) "Sunshine of Your Love".

I still think Clapton was at his best though with Derek and The Dominoes.
