The Triffids - Wide Open Road. It's been quite a while since I last played it. Oh, what a song it is.

Is that the name of the song or the frequency of playing? :-)

Song name. Could play it over and over though, it's just 38 seconds long.

A great 45 on Alan Horne's "Swamplands" label from '85.

Thanks for that Andrew! Of course, now I'm hunting for a Swamplands sampler or anthology.

Randy,

Don't think that such a compilation officially exists, but there were some excellent singles!

Here's a discussion with all the releases

Lou Reed - Dirty Blvd. (Just turned up on my iPod. Thank you shuffle mode, which I almost never use, but am very much enjoying today.)

Sneaking up on me on the Italian X-factor soundtrack, something I thought, hmmm, some indy thing with good noodling guitar, but,no, it was:

Can - Mary Mary so contrary

from their very first album & sounding fresh as a daisy.

Autumn Defense - What is this thing that I found

This, on the other hand, I presumed was a George Harrison song I didn't know.

The Velvet Underground - I'm Waiting For the Man

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4xMSMLWr cN8

Teaser for the soon to be released deluxe reissue of their 3rd album. Can't say that the 3 different mixes of the same album fills me with great excitement, but then there are also 2 CDs of the legendary Matrix live tapes. Same shows as "Live 1969", but that was taken from a second generation quick mix from the original 4 track tapes.

The samples that have been floating around on the internet make it sound as if the band are playing in your living room !

"What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted?"

RIP Jimmy Ruffin

I saw the great documentary about the Funk Brothers and Motown recently ("Standing in the Shadows of Motown") and Joan Osborne's version kicks up a storm.

Black English - Leave The Door Open Wide
Yes, it's very obviously derivative but isn't everything, stuck in the head today though.
This band were called No earlier this year, now their album is called No and they are called Black English....it's not too late for a great local band to me called Ham Sandwich to follow suit!

Adrian Crowley - Trouble, which has a touch of The Nits about it. Coincidentally or otherwise, the sleevenotes say it is partly inspired by a conversation he had with two guys after a show in The Netherlands.
