Miracle Legion - The Backyard (vinyl Rought Trade US 31)

I'm not on commission (honest) but if anyone is on the lookout for a new turntable and on a tight budget this is an excellent buy.

Emma Morton – Daddy blues

A Scots woman getting to the semi-final of Italian X-factor was great – she really deserved the final at least – and gave her the chance to present her own song, a tough, swinging blues about growing up in an Edinburgh family shredded by alcoholism. Smart, gutsy and cool, I really hope she makes it work in the music business here.

Jean-Paul Sartre--Feverhut

The band is Feverhut, JPS is the name of the song. I know nothing about them. I doubt that they are the same as the instrumental Fever Hut I find on youtube. This track comes off a 2002 vintage various artists comp put out by German label Firestation. The song is terrific.

Hugh, I hoped my post would draw a response from you. I use Discogs all the time as a source of release dates for songs when I'm entering them into my iTunes library. (Yes, I'm that sort of geek and, no, I do not accept the existing often-wrong year contained in the iTunes database.) So I've no idea why I didn't check it for info about Fever Hut. I've just sourced a CD copy of "The Warmth of Vinyl" from a Polish seller on eBay!

I see an expensive CD copy of the Passmore Sisters' comp originating from the Philippines circa 2014 but I suspect it's a needle-drop. Not sure I want to pay $40 for that.

The two earlier Hollow Men albums are vinyl only. "Drowning Men" comes from the second one. I suspect the two later albums are less wonderful. Arista picked them up for U.S. release, for crissakes.

Reissue opportunities for Roque or Uwe.

Randy, Cloudberry Records released a 3 inch CD-R by Fever Hut back in October, 2007. Three tracks including Jean Paul Sartre, Frida and Diego and Kill Me Again. It is still available ( No. 052 in the 3 inch CD-R Single Series.) I have been looking for a copy of The Warmth of Vinyl for some time now without success.

The Apartments - 21

The first song from the forthcoming record, available some 7 minutes into the broadcast below.

You almost ask yourself how Peter Walsh can sing such a heartbreaking song (it is about the loss of his young son). In 2012 in Bordeaux, Amanda Brown said it was difficult to play it, "But it remains a beautiful song"

"I carried you on my hip at first/I carried you on my shoulders/Carried you to a long black car/You will never get any older"

The same transmission also reveals that a new Dominique A album will be out next March, good to know.

Slim Smith - Hip hug

Gorgeous creamy vocals. What a great voice this guy had.

Fedez - Magnifico

Ha, finally after a lifetime of rock & indie, it takes a smart, doe-eyed, rather over-tattoed Italian lad to bring me round to (a soft-pop) version of (Italian) rap: I like the particular tonality of his voice (and slight speech defect), the intelligent words ("Tonight I'll sleep on my favourite side... yours...") and the astutely melodic contribution from piano & female voice. Yeah, very nice. Will I head off to listen to 50cent now? Nah, probably not.

Stuart, I love your descriptions of music I've never heard of, be it Italian rap, a Scottish woman on a talent show, or whatever. It never makes me want to hear them, but your passion for a broad range of product is infectious. (This possibly sounds like I'm being sarcastic. I assure you, I'm not.)

The Rosenbergs - Leech. Classic power pop from 1999, but I only discovered them recently and downloaded the EP this comes from from iTunes yesterday.

De lucia/Di meola/Mclaughlin - Mediterranean Sun Dance

I guess that few, if any, of us on the board are particular lovers of virtuosity, whether for its own sake or otherwise: but when tethered to immense good humour and a decent tune, as here, it’s good just to sit back and hold your breath.

Randy, I have been an admirer of Flemming Borby for many years. Track from his debut album which was released back in 2002.

Very stylish, thanks Hugh. Their album "Instamatic Lovelife" came in my giant order from Firestation. On first pass, I opted to install only four tracks on iTunes. But definitely somebody worth examining.

Randy, Here he is drumming with Greene ( Danish band ) back in 1993. From the album 'Teenage Museum' which was released in 1992.

Sorry for posting the late entry on this thread but yesterday (12/31) the iPod in my car pitched up a singularly suitable song for the day when I returned from lunch and pulled into the garage at work. Upon returning to the car to drive home, I immediately hit the "back" button to restart the half-played song:

The Associates -- Party Fears Two
