I filed away the last pile without posting on here but here is the current unfiled stack:

Black Watch -- Amphetamines
Dentists -- Behind the Door I Keep the Universe. This is a pretty decent album but a later one -- "Deep 6" -- is heading straight for the discard pile.
Claire Diterzi -- Le Salon des Refusees
Ghostbrother Project -- Back Into Your Heart
Greene -- Minor Sun
Hey Paulette! -- Long Ball Into Nowhere
Labrador -- This Time
Mademoiselle K -- Ca Me Vexe
Mademoiselle K -- Jamais la pa ix
McCarthy -- Complete Albums, Singles & BBC Sessions. Just in case the sound is better. I adore McCarthy. I haven't tired of them at all since Spence first sent me something of theirs maybe 5 or 6 years ago.
Nite Fields -- Depersonalisation
Viet Conga

How much did the Dexys vinyl cost? Outrageous, or a bargain? Does it play OK? What an amazing album.

Hi Padraig. Decent clean copy, vinyl was pristeen, just needed a bit of a clean. Played without fault. Sleeve had a tear from a sticker being removed. A 2nd hand vinyl shop opened in Waterford last week, early days, but potential there to grow. A bargain IMO at €8 (11AUD).

Had a look on Discogs, and the vinyl is not as rare as I thought. I think the extended directors cut CD version sells for silly money.

Dominique A - Memoire Neuve
Dominique A - Si Je Connais Harry

Albums so old, Mr A still had hair. Thank you to whoever first wrote about him here. Without this site I doubt I would ever have independently come across him.

Padraig, my recollection is that Dominique A was originally pitched by Stuart. The woman singing with him on "Teenage Kicks" is Dom A's then-girlfriend Francoiz Breut. Somewhere someone reported who Grant McLennan was enthusing about in the year before he died and Francoiz Breut was on that list and that's how I got started on her (though I unluckily started with one of her weaker albums).

As a writer I figure it's additionally difficult for you to listen to music minus knowing what the lyrics are doing. Perhaps you'll go to the trouble of translating. Perhaps some day I will! I've been able to enjoy without understanding the lyrics. I credit my years listening to musically great but lyrically vapid 1960s records. That early course in ignoring the lyrics is serving me very well for foreign language music.

I consider this board my secret weapon for finding music to become passionate about.

... and I was led to Dom A by a remark on the Bashung webpage, where, of course, I'd never have ended up without his name being floated across this very message board... which opened up not only that great man's own rich and splendid oeuvre (enough in itself to make me eternally grateful to the contributers here) but also a host of other fascinating figures in inventive modern French rock/pop... (which makes me wonder why Italy seems to be so bereft in that particular area... ) Not to mention a whole lot of other stuff that has had Amazon & Dodax accountants gleefully rubbing their hands...

Thank you both, Stuart and Randy. And everyone else here who has led me to great music.

Not understanding the lyrics doesn't bother me a jot, which may sound odd I suppose. Sometimes I do ask people who speak the language what lyrics of non-English songs mean (I did that with Blumfeld lyrics when I was in college because there was a German girl in my class), but mostly not. My favourite song of Dominique A's is Immortels, and I don't need to understand the words to feel the emotion and get the gist of it.

These are only the ones I got in JB Hi-fi. At least half were from the 99c bin. Most of the others were $2.99-6.99. Given that JB is turning over more and more of its floor space to white goods, who knows how long more they'll sell CDs at all.

My brother and nephew are visiting so it's time to get the piles off the dining table and file them away. This is so tedious I procrastinate until it's a huge task.

Antoine -- s/t
Antoine -- Elucubrations
Apartments -- Evening Visits (reissue)
Apartments -- No Song No Spell No Madrigal
Associates -- Sulk
Courtney Barnett -- Sometimes and I Sit and Think . . . .
Black Watch -- Amphetamines
The Bridge -- What Does It Take to Make You Love Me?
Concubines -- I've Tried Subtlety
Dead Forest Index -- Antique
Decoration -- Don't Disappoint Us Now
Decoration -- See You After the War
Dentists -- Behind the Door I Keep the Universe
Dentists -- Deep Six
Claire Diterzi-- Le salon des refusees
Dominique A -- Eleor
Gaslight Radio -- Chapter 6: The Hard Luck Knights
Ghostbrother Project -- Back Into Your Heart
Greene -- Lovers Lingo
Greene -- Minor Sun
Hey Paulette -- Long Ball into Nowhere
Labrador -- This Time
Bastien Lallemant -- Les premiers instants
Bastien Lallemant -- Les erotiques
Bastien Lallemant -- Le verger
Bastien Lallemant -- La maison haute
Mademoiselle K -- Ca me vexe
Mademoiselle K -- Jamais la pa ix
McCarthy -- reissue box
Nightingales -- Mind Over Matter
Nite Fields -- Depersonalization
Outsiders -- Calling On Youth
Outsiders -- Close Up
Reflection A.O.B. -- The Complete Collection 1985 - 87
Riot of Colour -- Everywhere a Maltby
Spanish Amanda -- Swingers
Sternbuschweg -- Glücklich oder nicht
Sternbuschweg -- Die Unvollkommenheit
The Train Set -- Never California
Viet Cong -- s/t
Youth Group -- Urban & Eastern
Youth Group -- Casino Twilight Dogs
Youth Group -- The Night is Ours

A lot of these purchases were completist moves, to expand on artists who have impressed me with something I already have. For example, Youth Group falls into that classification. While "Swingers" is mostly a collection of DJ mixes, Spanish Amanda may be one of the most lastingly fascinating of the more obscure among these artists. Maybe Hugh knows something about them. They seem to have had just one album ("Brave New Girl") back in 2000 or so and that's it. The vocalist and writer is a mad genius.

Randy, Cloudberry Records ( Cloudberry Cake Proselytism Blog ) is the place to go for information on the Spanish Amanda. I have never been able to find any other articles / info on the band or the singer / songwriter ( Huw Bucknell.) You can listen to and download ( MP3s ) of unreleased tracks ( Rallye Sport Album and Swingers EP ) on LastFM.

Thank you Hugh! I haven't been on Roque's site for a while. I find that when I go on his blog I become so fascinated that I miss appointments and don't accomplish things I'm supposed to do. Talk about mad genius. The Rallye Sport Spanish Amanda tracks I didn't already have are downloaded. Maybe Uwe will eventually release them formally. (He was my source of "Swingers".)

The Revolutionary Army Of The Infant Jesus - The Gift Of Tears / Mirror / La Liturgie Pour La Fin Du Temps ( Two Disc Set )

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=javeIEax oPQ

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q7ZXEfnb CMI

Obscure band from Liverpool who released two albums and an EP between 1987 and 1995 and who are about to release a new album on Occultation Recordings in the very near future. Their music is described as Apocalyptic Folk / Neoclassical / Ethereal / Experimental. The two albums, ep and some previously unreleased songs were released as a three disc box set in 2013. Nice review for anyone interested.

Mefisto--Story
Movement Ex--s/t
My Bloody Valentine--EP's 1988-1991
My Favorite--Love At Absolute Zero
My Favorite--The Happiest Days of Our Lives
Nits--Malpensa
The Poets--Wooden Spoon (Singles Anthology 1964-1967)

Would-Be-Goods--Mondo
Would-Be-Goods--Emmanuelle Beart
Would-Be-Goods--Brief Lives
Would-Be-Goods--The Morning After
Would-Be-Goods--Eventyr

Some of these are obvious completist moves, or searches for better masters. The big new additions as artists in my collection are the Lucksmiths and Would-Be-Goods, who I love. Movement Ex is a semi-obscure rap classic from my days when I lived in South LA. I have to be in the right mood for it and I seldom will be but it's a very solid example of its genre. I doubt that I'll get anything else by My Bloody Valentine. They create interesting soundscapes but that's not enough for me. My Favorite generated a funny reaction from Jeff Whiteaker, formerly on this Board, who typed "Boooo!" It turns out they were on the same label as Jeff's band at the time and My Favorite told the label boss that Jeff's band was lousy "so we hated them in kind."

Wow, I wish I'd seen your post much earlier Jean. The signed copies are sold out of course. I've ordered the full set, unsigned.

This is a great time for new releases and I have a mass of orders pending, all funded by a huge balance in my Paypal account thanks to an airline ticket refund (don't ask). Besides Francoiz Breut which I received before going on vacation, there are Keren Ann, Mickey 3d (thank you for the news Stuart), the Drones and Flemming Borby. And I have a stack of 80s/90s reissues heading my way including UV Pop, And Also the Trees, Garce Allard (Sad Lovers & Giants) and the Wake.

A very fun spring indeed.
