Did anybody buy anything? I got the Waterboys 10" EP, which was bloody expensive at $30. I also bought a few other LPs and one CD (bar the Waterboys, none of this was Record store day exclusive) and left Red Eye $99.90 lighter, but happier. I asked one of the shop owners how the day had gone (it was close to closing time before I got there) and he said it was the best year yet, trade was up 20% on last year, which had also been very good. It was good to hear. |

Only 2 things this year, The Saints-Eternally Yours and The Soft Machine-Wonderland. The Saints sounds great but the Soft Machine is a collection of rare live and studio tracks from 67-70. It sounds like it was recorded under water. . Dreadful. |

For them's who's interested, Wussy has a typically great Record Store Day offering. They always do. Covers of murder ballads. I haven't heard it, but how can you go wrong with the concept? Padraig, get on this. http://www.shakeitrecords.com/Shakeit-al bum.php/id=743/?SessionID=hn928dkus61bel 3129d9489bu5 |

Hello together, this RSD was very creepy to me and not only me! I bought the Waterboys 10" for nice 12 Euros and two Holger Czukay 2x10"es for 15 and 20 Euros. That was in the first shop I got to in cologne at 9 a.m. in the morning. This shop used to be a second hand record shop but started selling new vinyl exactly one year ago. Directly around the corner is Underdog recordshop. A very good indie shop for many, many years. When I got around the corner I fell over - about 100 people in a queue standing outside. The entrance of this shop is not big and the RSD records stand near the entrance. I could imagine that I would have to wait almost two or three hours to get in the shop! I turned around and drove by train to my hometown where I arrived at around 10 a.m. The shop there has just opened. The records were placed in one corner and a whole bunch of people around. After about 30 minutes I came near to the records, asked a guy to give me the pop group 12" but he took it himself. The other records I could see did not seem to be so interesting. Two people in the shop bought a Kettcar vinyl box set, autographed and individually numbers (5 picture disc lps) quite nice for a fair price of 75 euros. I would have bought this if possible, but didn't get it there. The thing I was looking for the most was the Red House Painters Vinyl Box Set, but neithter of the shops I have been in got this one. A friend of mine told me that in one of the four shops he has been (frankfurt area) they had one copy sold for 120 euros. This is limited to 1500 copies. On the same day I looked in ebay whether these records are sold there. One Kettcar copy sold for 131 Euros +p&p and the Painters box set was sold for more than 300 Euros each. Many were sold for this price. An article in a very important german magazine SPIEGEL has an interview with a record shop in Hamburg (Michelle Records - they used to have the Go-Betweens play in their shop...) where the owners have had similar experiences. http://www.spiegel.de/kultur/musik/recor d-store-day-michelle-records-im-intervie w-zu-raritaeten-a-1029680.html The headline says roughly - Many of our customers feel fooled and messed around! If RSD 2016 works in this way - it will happen withoutt me! Andreas. The Kettcar box set you can buy on the labels homepage for the original 75 Euros + p&P. I ordered a copy... on Ebay they are actually for around 200 Euros. |

Roxy Music 10" and Bee Gees 12" for me. I picked up several things and put them back again as they all seemed too expensive for the enjoyment I would have had out of them; Larry Levan 12", two Holger Czukay 2*10", Young Turks 7", TV On The Radio 12". I would have liked the Django Django 7" and the Jon Hopkins 10" but didn't see them. |
