Microdisney – Past. A lesser sung minor classic from Cork's finest.

The Stone Roses - Elephant stone

What a gorgeous track - some great bass whacking going on there. Possibly there's a more technical term for it. Ian Brown whines along pleasantly. I must have listened to their debut album a zillion times back in the day but I could not cite even one line of lyric.

Robert Forster – Turn On The Rain. The only track on the album that sounds like it could have come from The Evangelist.

As I did with the Apartments album earlier this year I am patiently waiting for the physical object to arrive at my door. I will not listen to the Graun's advance stream. And now that I have my turntables in operation I can even listen to it in proper 20 minute halves.

But only once it actually arrives.

The Waterboys - Fisherman's blues

After just the right amount of wine, and maybe a little too much limoncello, this really does sound like the greatest song in the world...

I love The Phantom Band, Stuart. Traditional Scottish krautrock.

Mercury Rev - Emotional Free Fall. My God, they're back on form.

Bawl – Glen Campbell Nights. They only made one, brilliant, album, and this wasn't even on it. It was a single. I have it on 7", but it was released on CD too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7l36h1H 6i8

Great song Stuart. I'm still in the very early phases of getting to know the album. I haven't listened to the CD yet, just the LP and its 5 song sides. I can tell there is still hidden treasure.

Robert Forster – Songwriters on the run

One thing I love is the lack of banality – no “oh let’s throw in a blues-rock number to fill it up” etc. And the roll and snap of Robert’s voice around his lyrics, reflecting the roll and snap of the instruments beneath, the little biting guitar runs and twanging bass. It has that invigorating freshness of the moment at the end of the shower when you smack the handle to cold and the whole world wakes up in your skin. It's great to have an album that you play all day and the very first thing you want to do next morning is put it on again.

It was going to be Jolene by Dolly Parton - until I got home, turned on the TV and watched New True Faith video. Fantastic.
