Robert Forster - Songwriters on the run

One good thing about a ten-track, 39 minute album is you can get through the whole thing during lunch hour and still have time left for a stroll round the park...

Al Di Meola - Blackbird

Two things I rarely listen to are jazz guitar and the music of the Beatles. Al here brings both of these together and it turns out to be ravishingly gorgeous.

Gene Clark/Carla Olson - Fair and Tender Ladies - heard this one the other night. A traditional Appalachian folk song. Very nice song imho.

The Orchestra – Let Me Dream. The Orchestra, for those who don't know them, is most of ELO, with Parthenon Huxley replacing Jeff Lynne.

The Proposition - The Women Who'll Love You. The female vocals on this track are far better than the male vocals on all the preceding songs.

My Bloody Valentine – Soon (Andrew Weatherall Mix). Sometimes I think it's the greatest 12" remix ever.

The Byrds – Lady Friend (mono single version). Sometimes I think it's the greatest 7" ever.

The Chills - Heavenly Pop Hit

(just watched an amazing/disturbing live version on Youtube - Auckland 2008, complete with live dancers. Martin's voice is shot to blazes but it's such a great song it survives).

Nick Cave – Into My Arms. It's on an 18-year-old mix tape I was playing while washing the dishes. I had no idea it was on the tape. It's the first Nick Cave song I heard since his son died. The lyrics sound like they could have been written for his child, but of course they were written before he was even born.

Bertrand Belin- Hypernuit

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvpp6zAS pbI

This beautiful song popped up on France-Inter this morning, during a program about melancholy...followed by a program all about the meat of the black pig of the Pyrénées. All life is on French radio.

Van Morrison - I'll be your lover too

First time I've ever heard His band and the street choir, I think. Certainly, for a grumpy old buggerlugs, he has come up with some extravagantly glorious love songs.

House of Love - The Futureheads (as somebody says on Youtube: it's not a better cover of the original but rather a very different cover that is good. Couldn't have put it better myself). And it's my song of the day... two steps on the water...

Nicolas Paugam - Sous La Houlette

More French radio. His voice is a little outside my comfort zone but I do like the brassy South American vibe and brisk scuttering rhythm.

So, House Of Love don't have a song called The Futureheads? Disappointed.
