Jefferson Airplane - Chauffeur Blues (sung by JA's origingal singer Signe Anderson who died the same day as Paul Kantner). I think it's a Memphis Minnie song.

Robert Forster - Crying Love

...he cannot be as good looking at me...

Dan Hicks! There's an underrated, genuinely original person. His group was superb.

Peter Astor - Walk into the wind

I think there is here almost everything I require in a song.

Roc strong – Go'head. I heard this 2014 song on the trailer for the new Coen bothers film Hail Ceasar. I googled it to see what it was, then bought it from iTunes. Sometimes technology is just wonderful.

BB King - The Thrill is Gone (from "Live at Cook County Jail")

The band drop down in the last couple of minutes...and then the man hits a few notes that just make the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.

Papercuts - Future Primitive

Cunningly brilliant song to bring a great season one to an end. "Manhattan" snuck up on me unannounced, so sitting down to watch the first episode I was wondering if it would be another waste of money and talent like Fortitude or something worth following. The latter, fortunately. Good to see one of my favourite actors of the moment, David Harbour, in a suitably meaty role. And another European actress to keep an eye on, Katja Herbers, cool and flirty and sharp, perfect for her own series.

Blur – 1992

Things have gone a bit Blurry around here since I watched the excellent documentary on them the other day, a bit odd considering the fact that The Great Escape is the only album I can remember actually grabbing out the player on first hearing and marching back immediately to the shop to change. I also bought Country House, not for the infectiously unlistenable A-side but for the gorgeous Francoise Hardy duet that backed it. Increasing band fractiousness seems to have helped the music, which gets squawly and scratchy without losing a sense of tune, and as a song 1992 is hard not to love, though even here a nice couplet like “You’d love my bed… you took the other instead” is offset by the awkwardness of stuff like “an agreement of your bombast”. Similarly the anthemic Tender has a great main melody which is then gradually trounced into submission by the terrace-boy chanting of Ohhhh bayyyybeeee… So, Blur, often a game of two halves.

Wall of Voodoo - Mexican Radio ("I wish I was in Tijuana, eating barbecued iguana"; when I was in Tijuana for half a day I spent most of the time cycling around town trying tacos from the street stalls - as with a lot of Asian street food, generally the cheaper the better!)

Greetings from Roma! When I saw her last year she said an album was coming but I kept checking and finding nothing so this is good to hear. Francoiz Breut's new album is also coming out this month, on the 18th I believe.

Blur - the Universal (live on Jools)

Ravishing string & brass laden affair: there's quite a bit of great backup singing going on too, but nary a backup singer in sight, so how live this is remains moot.
