Cśur de pirate - Oublie-moi

Fetchingly breezy French stuff, accidentally TV zapped on through Radio Swiss Pop.

Dido - White Flag, live at Brixton. Which, bizarrely, leaves me in tears (sic).

Tom Verlaine – Cry Mercy Judge. It must be at least 20 years since I last heard this. Still an awesome song.

Revelino – Hello. It tips the hat to late-period Beatles, just as Oasis were doing at the same time. The only real difference between what Oasis did and what Revelino did was about 50 million sales.

Southern Family – Sweet By And By (vocals by Miranda Lambert). This is my kind of country.

Francoise Breut - La conquete

First track on her new Zoo album and, really, so good, and already played half a dozen times, I hardly care what the rest is like.

Well, Monsieur Adams, as so often, was there first...

But moving on finally to track 2

Loon-Plage

and it's just as good!

Glad you are enjoying it Stuart. I've only heard the album maybe three times because I got it just before going on my trip. My iPod's shuffle pitched up one song from her new album while I was staying in London at a place with a suitable radio for attaching the iPod. Not bad considering there are 14,000 songs on it but perversely it chose the German spoken-word song which is actually probably the only one I'll ultimately be deleting from the device's library.

Peter Gabriel – Sledgehammer (Extended Dance Remix). Only ever released on vinyl. It wasn't even included in the So box set a few years ago.

Ahh, I shall give that a listen, Pádraig; my song of the day is:

The Chesterfields (or The Chesterf!elds) - Ask Johnny Dee

(Classic 80s jangly guitar pop with a tragic follow-up - Davy Chesterfield was killed by a hit and run driver)

I love the Chesterfields Simon! They cut a number of great records in addition to "Johnny Dee." "Hangover Eve" comes to mind. Didn't know about Davy Chesterfield.

Prince - Kiss

What a shock. Just coming to terms with the lovely Victoria Wood not being with us anymore anymore.

Prince – Purple Rain. The full 8:42 version. I'd waited all day for this. I put Prince on shuffle on the way to work, but it didn't show up. I put Prince on shuffle on the way home from work and Purple Rain came on as the last song in the mix. Just perfect.

Ronnie Lane & Pete Townshend - Annie

Beautiful Lane song and vocal, from "Rough Mix" ...an album that deserves to be better known.

Prince – Sometimes It Snows In April (demo). It's not radically different from the finished version. It's slightly longer and has a bit more guitar. Always one of my favourite Prince songs. I still have the Parade tape somewhere (I hope).

And strangely enough it has, both in Italy and in the Czech Republic. I was standing in the middle of an elongated medieval square with a colourful assortment of houses around me, and then down it came. I am not much of a believer, but it seemed amazingly apt.

Andrew, "Rough Mix" is indeed a bit overlooked. It's a fine piece of work.
