Andrew, do you remember in 1999 the Daily Telegraph prematurely announced his death and published his obituary? At his next public appearance, he signed copies of the obit for fans, saying: “It’s not the first time I’ve died in Coventry.”

Kate Jackson – Wonder Feeling. Massive hook played by Bernard Butler.

Pádraig,

And apparently the newspaper tried to take him to court, saying that he couldn't sell signed photo copies of their obituary...for a pound! Apparently he was so broke at the time it was a way to make a little cash.

If you haven't seen his solo at the end of this version of "The Quiet Joys of Brotherhood" it is worth 3 minutes of your time.

Custard - "The 1990's". I was unaware of the band during their original run but have been listening to their comeback album frequently.

Hugh, I think you'd like this. It's a guy who is from just a few miles from where I grew up, but sounds like he should be on Flying Nun. https://vimeo.com/64105532

Padraig, Many thanks. I see Donal Fean has released an album with Kate Lawrence. I will check it out as soon as I get a chance. He certainly hails from a very musical family. I purchased numerous titles by two of his brothers back in the early 1970s. Currently in the process of adding a new CD Player / DAC to my system to replace the existing Arcam FMJ CD17.

Bulbs - Van Morrison, live in Montreux

Ah, Van. Graceless, humourless, always slightly overweight, horrible pants, horrible shirt. But when he hits those strings & sings he immediately taps into that into endless, marvellous stream of music that has coursed through humanity ever since the first quizzical ape hit two stones together and danced on a branch.

Contemplation Rose - still Van

Van is keeping his mind on that rose, that rose in a church in Spanish Harlem. Jeff Labes is on piano.

Paul McCartney – My Love. The solo from Henry McCullough is phenomenal. He died this week. RIP, the only Irish man to play at Woodstock (he was in Joe Cocker's band at the time).

She's the flavour of the month in all the Arts pages, isn't she? Even my Italian newspaper, so good at ignoring virtually everything musical from "beyond the Alps", as they like to say, had a big piece on her. I'm not feeling the buzz myself, wishy-washy electronics and watery melodies so far. Maybe I'll cotton on later.

Deerhoof – Learning To Apologise Effectively. As close to a straight ahead rock song as they're likely to get. Maybe.

Christina was already the album of the year 2014 of the french Inrocks magazine when I learned about her (the same last years with Tobias Jesso or Alt-j, I must be completely out..).
The good thing is that I don't like the few things I've heard and her character leave me cold if not annoyed..
