Charles & Eddie - Would I lie to you?

Ages since I heard this great song, played loud in the bar this morning to wake up the sleepier customers. I couldn't remember anything about who sang it: a white boy singing black, maybe? But no, it was a bit of both. Sorry to see that Charles died so young.

Le Super Homard - Maple key

Well, it's not Stereolab, but it is rather pleasant.

Kraftwerk - Radioactivity (Francois Kevorkian Remix) 12". A truly awesome remix from 1991.

Breaking off briefly from shredding an old copy of the only halfdecent thing Irvine Welsh ever wrote into raggedy squares to be looped with a bootlace and hung neatly next to the bog,

Bob Dylan - I pity the poor immigrant

Ian Matthews - Never Ending

Lovely piano ornamentation from Keith Tippet. IM's excellent first solo album from 1970 also has Sandy Denny & Richard Thompson lending a hand.

I knew his work with Southern Comfort & Plainsong, Hugh, but not his solo stuff, until shopping in Rome I saw a 3 CD compilation which reminded me: but since his first 2 solo albums have just been rereleased in remastered versions, and I don't much care for compilations, I thought they were a better buy. One of the authors of my Italian Dictionary of Rock is a big fan, and IM gets quite a bit of space therein. Maybe you can direct me to some of his later stuff that's worth getting!

Stuart, As you are already familiar with his work with Matthews Southern Comfort and Plainsong then I would start at the beginning and move forward. He has never made a really bad album in my humble opinion. If You Saw Thro My Eyes was followed by Tigers Will Survive and Journeys From Gospel. He then moved to the U.S.A. where he signed for Elektra who released Valley Hi and Some Days You Eat The Bear And Some Days The Bear Eats You. If you like In Search of Amelia Earhart by Plainsong then there is every chance you will enjoy Valley Hi.

I have not purchased anything by him since the release of Zumbach's Coat

Shelleyan Orphan - Anatomy of Love

Sadly just found out that the singer Caroline Crawley died recently. I've always loved this song.

By the way, my contribution aside, I like that comp a lot. We worked our butts off putting it together.

Rob, I recently purchased the CD at Cdbaby.com. It is a very good tribute CD if I may say. As a Chicagoan, I am familiar with artists on it such as Nora O'Connor, Janet Bean, Rick Sherry and Jason Adasiewicz.

Fred, that's very cool! I didn't know there were any other Chicagoans around these parts, let alone those who bought my Prine tribute. It was a hell of thing pulling it all together. But I think it came out well. Some people (like me) used the source material as a jumping off point, other people played it straighter. My buddy and I got interviewed on XRT's "Local Anesthetic" about it after it came out, which was pretty weird. I'm really glad you like it.
