Brilliant news! Could not be more chuffed. Absolutely well-deserved for a man who rewrote the history of modern song, whose voice leaves its sardonic echo at the tonal edge of every singer who came after him. F*** the Donald! Long live the Bob!! |

I'm sure there are some people mortified - MORTIFIED - by the idea of a mere songwriter winning this. But there's nothing "mere" about Bob Dylan. He transformed the craft he works in. If songs like "Visions of Johanna" and "Blind Willie McTell" and "Tombstone Blues" and a hundred others aren't literature with a capital L, I don't know what is. I think it's wonderful. |

Don't know about the Nobel Prize, but all these prizes are subjective so why not. A master with words. Dylan in '66 live must have been something to behold. Thankfully Pennebaker was there with the cameras. "Like a Rolling Stone" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYnnPEwj LSs What do people make of the 36 CD set of all the 1966 shows coming out ? I loved the 2CD version of the Cutting Edge release and would have loved to be able to afford the full package. |

Irvine Welsh revealed himself to be a bit of a tool for his disdain for Dylan getting the prize. Stephen King's evident delight with Dylan's win was a far nicer thing to see. As Rob said, it's wonderful. Andrew, I bought the two disc version of Cutting Edge, then I also bought the six disc version when it briefly came down a lot in price. What puts me off the 36 disc set that's coming is just thinking I know I'd never play it all, or even close to it all. Not saying I won't still get it, mind. |
