2016 is having its fair share of awful news to wake up and news of Lenny Cohen's passing joins that list. Brilliant new album just out, listened to it all last weekend. One of my first concerts was when he played The National Stadium Dublin in 1988 and still one of the best concerts I've been too. There's a mighty judgement coming, but it won't take long. RIP |

Perhaps the perfect moment for a man of great dignity, wit and poetry to turn his back on the world. |

Stuart, lots of great pieces linked here: http://cohencentric.com/memory-leonard-c ohen/ The Irish Times ran a 4 page separate supplement in commemoration of Cohen yesterday, this doesn't happen very often and was a nice touch. |

Lucky to have seen him sing in Toulouse a few years ago...a wonderful and emotional evening. Rarely have I seen an artist welcomed with such warmth by an audience...and give back so much in return. |

If you have never seen the remarkable Tony Palmer documentary of Cohen's 72 European tour ("Bird on a Wire") it is here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgjqpaLO -GE I think that it is the Jerusalem concert, where he quits the stage saying that he isn't feeling it. The audience continue singing his songs and after a shave (!) he decides to return. The legendary producer Bob Johnson was in his band. |
