Hey, all. I don't think he'd mind me positing this in this space. Some, maybe many of you, remember Allen Belz, who was a wise and active and enthusiastic voice around these parts back in the day. As I write this, he has either passed from cancer or will soon. Our bits of correspondence during his illness suggested he was facing his diagnosis with the calm, intelligence and equanimity he brought to his posts here. He was a lovely soul, and I thought some people here might like to raise a glass to him, or maybe just spin a favorite GBs tune. |

Thanks for posting Rob - Allen was a huge cinema fan I recall. Raising a Belfast Black Stout to him. |

Just as a follow up, Allen passed Thursday, a little later than expected and the day of Peter's post. Apparently, one of the last songs he requested was Brian Eno's "Spinning Away." I think Richard Thompson's "The Angels Took My Racehorse Away" was also in the mix. I played the Chills' "Submarine Bells" in his honor. He was a big fan. |

Thanks Rob. I remember Allen asking me--off board--for guidance in choosing among the later Chills albums. I didn't really feel qualified because I was still a relative newbie to them but I did my best. Hopefully it was of some use to him. "Submarine Bells" is certainly something I'd want people to play as I leave the metaphorical room. I remember when Allen announced his decision to stop visiting the board. I know that he was sometimes frustrated with our occasionally--ahem!--opinionated tendencies. I wish he had stayed. He was marvelously open-minded when it came to music. |
